If you look at the inner edge of the obverse rim at 3 o'clock, there will be a laser inscription that reads "PROOF". You may need a microscope.

It should have a wire rim, and the background should look like a mirror. Some proofs from that era have cameo devices, but most will simply shine over the entire coin.

Hehe. Actually, if it's worn, it can be tough to tell. Does it look like the rims meet the surfaces at a sharp angle rather than rounded?

actually its in great shape.....still looks almost new...has some tone-ing around the outside
And...if it was that worn I wouldn't have asked if it was a possible proof. Found it at work.
