Favorite Coin/Song/Memory from the 50s????

Lucy wants to know what your favorite Coin and or memory and also song from the 1950's? Lucy really loves the Franklin half, what a sexy looking man, especially when ol Benny is on Lucy's hundred dollar bills. You've got a friend in Ben Daddy-o! As for my favorite song, I love most of em so I can't really name one, but Lucy doesn't dig the 'pop' artists such as Perry Como, Pat Boone, ect. They were a little to square for the HepKitty!

I was born in '56 so don't recall very much. I like a lot of the music as I listen to an oldie station most of the time. My favorite coin from the 50's is the Carver - Washington Comm. Half. Have the complete set of 12 coins.
  • My 57 ford red with white top and side panels. My first car, i paid $100.00 and drove it home with no driver liscense.
  • My favorite memory from the 50's has to be Marilyn Monroe - granted - the memories were generated in the 70's but man - she was a knockout!! image

    Frank
  • Favorite coin is the Seated Half...
The song was ooo e ooo ah ah ting tang walla walla wing wang...once I heard it I couldn't get it out of my head.
Thanks to you Lucy Bop I will be hearing it in my head all night long...over and over and over again...and the doctors said I was cured....Aaagghh!!!
A thing of beauty is a joy for ever

Gotta love it Gemini!!!! Come to my website and download some songs and hopefully you will find yourself singing more, and lose the doctor that is trying to cure this!!!! And KellectorKid, my son Rockin' Ed whom is now in the 9th grade knows more about 1950s music then most adults. He used to run a 50s show called 'After School Rock' on my website. Lucy brings em up right, in my house, you wanna eat? Better listen to some Bill Haley then! Presleyh, Lucy would of loved a 'cruise' in that 57. FC57coins, Marilyn was a living doll, the most daddy-o, sorry Madonna..... I was wondering if someone out there would mention the Booker T. Washingtons, these are killer coins that can be found in super nice condition. You must be very proud of that set DoubleDime!!!!!!!

  • I may collect Lincolns and Hot Rod Lincoln may be a cool song, but Franklins are my favorite 50's issue. I love 50-60s doo-wop, comedy and parodies. Mr. Bassman by Johnny Cymbal is rattling around in my head today.

  • I wasn't born until 1963 so I have no memories of the 50's, but my favorite coin is the Franklin and song is " Blue Monday" by Fats Domino. Also big fan of the Coasters "Shoppin' for Clothes" I just love the sax solo.
I've got tickets to see Chuck Berry & Little Richard next month.image

  • << <i>ooo e ooo ah ah ting tang walla walla wing wang

<< <i> That would be the "Purple People Eater." Of course my personal 50s favorite was an instrumental by B. Bumble and the Stingers called "Nutrocker." I love the Franklins and the BTWs which reminds me of "Groovin" (as in FBLs) by Booker T. and the MGs.
Buy the coin...but be sure to pay for it.
  • I can appreciate the affection for Ben that his image on a $100 dollar bill produces, but choosing a favorite coin from the '50's is like asking what was your favorite part of a car wreck. Only the incomprehensible creation of the Ike dollar could replace the Franklin half as the absolute ugliest U.S. coin ever, and the others, well, let's talk world-class mediocrity!

Best song: "16 Tons" - Tennessee Ernie Ford
Best Memory: Swimming all day, all summer.

You are so right. I hate it when I can remember the 50s but can no longer trust my memory. Now where did I put that other 1933 $20 Saint. I know I had it here somewhere. image

  • Battle of New Orleans was a chart topper for a while. I remember my Dad playing that album for me years ago. We have a player piano and I actually bought that piano roll about 6 months ago. Now my kids are marching around the house whenever we play it.

Ahhh... the Fifties. Mom would throw us into the '54 Buick and head down to Newport Beach. (Mother's Bay) We'd have the place all to ourselves. That was years before the Freeway. Candy bars for a nickel. Sodas for a dime. Hamburgers for a quarter. My favorite song back then was "Mr. Sandman" by the Chordettes. Walking Liberty halves and Buffalo nickels were still plentiful in change.
TV was still in it's infancy.
Hop-a-long Cassidy. Roy Rogers. Howdy Doody. Sky King. Lassie. And of course......I Love Lucy.
So many fond memories. It truely was a wonderful time for me. I love those Fifties cars too. I've had a '52 DeLuxe, a '53 Chevy, and a '56 Chevy 150. I also had a '61 Chevy, '62 Corvair, '63 Impala,'65 Chevy and a '68 Malibu. Every one a great ride. They don't make 'em like that anymore.

chuck berry - gotta be 1 of the all-time greats, bar none. maybellene, johnny b goode, roll over beethoven, run rudolph run, man they don't make em like the used to, do they?

how about the soundtrack to peter gunn? i got that album when i was a kid, pulled it out of my parent's console stereo, the kind that had a spindle & an auto-changer that you would put a stack of records on , & it would drop them on 1 at a time and play em. remember when hi-fi had a single knob for "tone" (no graphics eq's), and if you had separate bass and treble, man you had something special.

dang! if i didn't like coins so dang much, might start collecting vinyl. better than plastic!!!

Awesome answers EVERYONE!!!!! Real Crazy! I am very glad to know that there are alot of Hepcats and Kittens on this board, I loved reading about songs you all like, about some fond memories and about some killer cars...I realize that to pick your favorite coin from the 50s is a limited choice, but, Lucy would have to go with DCAM Frankies!!!! I have a 56 and 63 that I also need to submit, I think they have an excellent shot at a DCAM designation. I believe these coins (Franklin DCAMS) are among the most beautiful coins ever produced by the U.S. mint! And the two I own are STUNNING examples. One TV show that I absolutely love is the Honeymooners and the Uncle Miltie show. Lucy also collects movies and tv shows from the 1950s and will post real videos in the Hepcat section of my website....I have not found anyone anywhere offering anything like this on the web....... Again, thanks everyone for making this a very fun and enjoyable post, its nice to have a few like this every now and then!
