I just picked up United States Copper Cents by Howard R. Newcomb. This addresses large cents from 1816 to 1857. Since I have about 35 large cents most of which are raw and un-attributed (is that a word?) this is going to be fun for a while. It is a cool book, lots of information.
I like new numismatic liturature almost as much as I like getting new coins. I may need to pickup Penny Whimsey next.

Bought mine in '92 ... very THOROUGH... you made a good choice and as you Say Sheldon is next.... that will cover the rest of the large cents.. Then you gotta get the book on flying Eagles and Indian Cents by R.Snow ! That's even more fun ! These are excellent Reaearchers ! Then on to Abe... It never ends.... well... Then there's the Colonials on the other end of the time line...

It is a most excellent reference, even if it is a catalog. Mark
We'll use our hands and hearts and if we must we'll use our heads.
