I know it's in an ACG holder, but opinions please

The photo is a little dark, but it looks like a descent coin for ACG. Anything I'm missing?

hehe, I'm currently bidding on an ACG coin too (but don't tell anyone or my reputation will be ruined.) Occasionally a decent coin does make it into their holder... momentary lapse of reason on the part of the submitter, I assume image In my case, it's lightly cleaned and overgraded, but the money's right. The darkside isn't as picky about light cleaning anyways image

Bikingnut - I know Im not supposed to say this, but the coin looks awfully nice to me.
Boy am I going to catch heck from the Forum for this. It is possible however, that there is a defect
on the rim edge that is not visable , but thats life. Good luck Bear

I haven't bid, I'm just watching for now. I must say I was alittle shocked when I saw what looks to be a quality coin in an ACG holder.

  • The funny part is the seller's statement:

    Uncirculated 66 Full Brest

I beleive FB stands for "Full Beak" on the eagle for ACG!

Does appear to be a pretty nice coin. Remember that a broken clock is right twice a day, so it has to happen sometimes!

Always buying music cards of artists I like! PSA or raw! Esp want PSA 10s 1991 Musicards Marx, Elton, Bryan Adams, etc. And 92/93 Country Gold AJ, Clint Black, Tim McGraw PSA 10s
  • It really does seem to be a beautiful piece. I would assume it probably grades out to be MS63 or 64 - Washington's hair seems to have some drawer wear, and the eagle's tailfeathers are quite weak (maybe common for the early Washingtons). However, scans can lie to you about contact marks and hairlines, so I don't know about the cheekbone, the hair, and the base of the bust.

There does seem to be lots of mint shine to it, though.
  • I wonder if it's a first generation coin? When ACG first opened, they actually tried to grade.

JJacks -- The holder says "FEB". Who KNOWS what ACG is thinking when it puts FEB on the holder.

Bikingnut -- It looks like a nice coin, but don't bet that it is a 66, or even a 65 for that matter. Just know what you are doing, and you are always gambling with ACG. Pictures can never tell the whole story, and you won't know for sure until you crack it out and hold it in your hand.

Yes, I have bought a few ACG holdered coins, but ultimately disappointed every time.

  • All I can say is be careful. At the price it is at now, I'd say give it a try, but don't expect to much. I too tried an ACG slab for my 40-D I needed for my Wash collection. It was graded MS-66 but looked like it might go 65 from the scan. What I COULDN'T see from the scan is the planchet flaw. Very obvious under the eye once in my hand. But alas, the no return on slabbed coins...... The moral of the story is if you want an ACG 1940-D in MS-66 I have one for CHEAP!

It would fit nicely into my collection of raw Washingtons, even if it is only a 64. I have a feeling it's going to go much higher than I would be willing to shell out.
