PCGS and the Millennium C&C Set...

Folks,

I've wanted to get my Millennium Sac graded (it's quite nice) and designated as Millennium. I see that PCGS has done some of them... but how does one do it?

Do you have to send in the entire set and let them clip out the Sac? Do you also have to have the Silver eagle graded?

Inquiring minds want to know...

  • Thanks to all. I'll post when I find out all the details.
  • Hi ursa, yes, let us know what you find out as I too have wondered this same thing. Where did I read (this weeks CW I think) that the sac in this set was a special strike. Not matte, but burnished..? or something like that. And I wonder if PCGS attributes it as such. Oh yeah, your musical...cool... what kind of music do you most enjoy and do you play any instruments?
  • pontiacinf... Hey ! you don't really think they would keep the mil. dollar do you? And what about the folder that the set came in ? image
  • doreme- the Millennium Sacagawea is something that PCGS attributes... I've seen them on the pop reports and on eBay. The mint issued them as "specially burnished" to enhance their appearance. There was (and I guess, still is) quite a bit of controversy over the real handling of these coins (as well as the no "W" mint mark on the silver Eagle). They look great to me...

I studied music in college, and even taught music for a while. My specialties were low brass and double reeds (what a combo, huh?) After starving and not getting a job in an area in which I wanted to live, I switched over to some other careers, eventually leading me to computer science in 1990. I still love music and try to participate from time to time. The cubs both play instruments and piano, so music is still in the house.

Indeed, I'll post when Carolj lets me know the answer.

Cut off the flap that holds the coins. That is all you have to send in. It is your choice whether to have the SAE graded or not. If you do have the SAE graded, it will not be designated as a Millenium set coin. It will just be graded as any other 2000 Silver Eagle is graded. Hope this helps, Mark

I have submitted several of these for grading. All you have to send in is the coin in the plastic holder that comes in the set. Do not take the coin out of this plastic holder or you will not receive the Millennium designation. You do not have to also submit the SAE. However, if you do, be aware that it will not receive any special designation. Once slabbed, it will not be distinquishable from any other 2000 MS SAE.

  • Ditto what mdwoods and wayneherndon said.

If you only want the Sacagawea, I'd check ebay prices for ICG 2000 (W) Silver Eagles and if they're still bringing a good premium, send your Sacagawea to PCGS and your Eagle to ICG, being careful to not break the plastic seals.

The Eagle "W" designation is bogus, in my opinion, but if the market disagrees, go with the flow. image

You can also find these, at times, for about $20. already holdered via ICG. Take the ICG coin(s) and have them crossed ("at-any-grade") with PCGS. If you hit that magical MS67 you've got a $150.00- $200.00 coin (nice return). Hit the MS68?
