what is the best approach when trying to sell/trade coins at a show?

I am going to a show in San Francisco today and I am hoping to sell or trade some PCGS slabbed coins. Is there a preferred approach to take like looking at their coins first, picking out what you want and offer a trade? Any suggestions?

thanks,
Matt

Just hand em the coins and tell them you'll take whatever they'll give you.
Ok, really....Decide the least amount you'll accept for the coins before you go.
Then ask around as to which dealer might be interested in what you have.
Just tell any dealer you have some PCGS slabbed coins to sell, and ask who he thinks might be interested. He himself may be, but if not he will recommend another dealer. Then just show them the coins. You'll find it works best if you know what you have and tell the dealers what you want for it. Then expect the dealer to make a counter offer. Know what your bottom line is and if they do make a counter offer to your asking price, decide whether to sell at the offered price or keep asking around. Once a counteroffer is made, if it's not acceptable to you, let that be the end of the attempted sale to that dealer.
You'll find you will get a faster sale and better price on anything the dealer can move fast. If what you're selling is in the doldrums, you may not even find a buyer.

my experience has been that a show is a good place to sell if you're looking to get a lowball price. on the other hand, if you want a fair price or even a fair offer you would be best to leave your coins at home. it's really hard to know without knowing what you have to sell. ray's answer was pretty good and it's been my approach. only thing being is that i never get any reasonable offers. i've always fared better on eBay.

  • I was going to sell them on ebay. I just wanted spending money at the show. I was going to take: 1942D Jeff ms66fs; 1969 pr69; 1938D linc ms66rd; and 1999S pr69dcam.

Ray's answer is what I expected to hear.

    thanks,
