Collection Appearance

I was thinking, shouldn't a collection take on an apparent "look" according to the collectors eye appeal? Maybe I didn't word that correctly......say I have five commems so far. All have russet rim toning and a general overall light toning of the same color. All of a sudden, I have a blast white Texas, or, Iowa added to the collection and it just doesn't appear to fit in....shouldn't a set have the same general appearance? I think it should....of course, this makes it more difficult to collect because you're looking for lightly toned coins of the same look as opposed to dipped, or blast white which may seem more prevalent. Am I all wet here? I guess the collector can do anything they want but what has been your experience when viewing or building collections?

I'm talking about a collection that maintains the coins original skin.

  • Easy solution. Just dip those toned coins and then you will have all white. No sense wasting away
neurons on such a complex issue.
Know where I can pick up a genuine 1804 Bust Dollar in the $300 to $350 range?
  • Hi, Cacheman! I do think that having a "matched" set is a big plus. It presents a greater challenge because there are a lot of super coins you have to pass on because they don't look like the others. I think that aesthetically, and from a achievement persepctive, you can't beat a collection of all-white, or all-toned coins. It means there was a method to the madness.

    Just my opinion. Good luck!
