Can an AU58+ Jefferson be Full Steps?

I don't know if PCGS will grade these out? -But I have seen AU58 Standing Liberty quarters with FH (Full Head), so why not the Jeffersons?

  • I absolutely think they can, just as much as a SLQ can have a FH designation and a Lincoln can still have rub but still be completely red.
  • According to PCGS standards, they will not place the full step designation on coins that are less than MS60.

I read that too. I wonder why the distinction.

    Braddick,
Good question for the Q&A boardimage.Al
  • Sure, if a coin is full steps when it's new, it'll be full steps until such time that the steps
are worn to the point where they begin to merge together, or until a ding comes along to
    ruin them.

I don't believe PCGS will attribute FS on an AU coin, though. With the possible exception
of just a couple of dates, I don't see much of a demand...just like used underwear - it may
be in great shape, but who would buy it?
  • On second thought, don't anwser that last question...
