Indiana quarter rolls with die cracks........

I got 10 rolls of In. quarters from the bank today to put away. When I got home, I noticed that 3 of the rolls have end coins with a die crack. (Yes, the same one!) What are the chances that the whole roll has die cracks? Should I crack them open and look, or just put them away as I had originally planned? Do you think it would show some progression if they are all cracked? Is it even worth spending the time with? Errors are NOT my thing, I just noticed and thought it was interesting.

Any thoughts and opinions are appreciated. Thanks very much.

  • I'd be checking them to see if you got any 'cuds' where the die breaks off and leaves a blob of metal where the coin design should be, probably not real valuable but a cool find for an error collector just the same.

  • Ron,
I found some Indiana "P" mints with what look like die cracks starting at the lower left tip of Washington's neck(bust) and passing through the "Q" in quarter to the rim. I kept three of them out of a roll. Do these sound anything like yours?

    Thanks

    Hey Gary,

Did you get those out of the rolls on my desk? That's exactly what I have.
  • Ron,
I was going through three rolls and these came from one of the rolls. I am getting some more today from another bank, so will be looking and let you know what I see. It is hard to tell how many of these were made...could be millions?
