Who wants to help build the greatest numismatic website?

UPDATE: Chat Room Scheduled for today

The title I hope speaks for itself. "Who wants to help build the greatest numismatic website"? I am in the process of creating (what I hope becomes) the greatest numismatic website.

I want to know if anybody out there would like to be a part of it, frankly I need the support of AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE as I plan for this to be a COMMUNITY DRIVEN WEBSITE... The goal of the site is simply to be what YOU want, not what somebody thinks you should have.

This post is not intented to be some kind of shallow "hype", I am truly interested in building a quality community driven numismatic website. Whether you can donate some numismatic images, write some articles, become a furom moderator, etc... Or give me some ideas - create your own position. All participation is greatly appreciated.

  • Well, you could start by getting rid of that temporary index file.

    How about this:

    <HTML>

    <HEAD>
    <TITLE>Numismatics Online - The World's Greatest Numismatic Website!</TITLE>
    </HEAD>

    <BODY>

    (Various photos of nice Ikes here.)

    </BODY>

    </HTML>

    There ya go! Good luck!
  • "temporary index file" ?
  • It sounds cool. I'd be a moderator!

    I don't believe "greatest" and "Ikes" belong together.

  • NumismaticsOnline, when I went to your site it said

    This is your temporary index.html file.

    Russ, your site is virtually Ikeless, sorry.

    I believe EDUCATION is the key to Numismatics. I would like to provide THE GREAT PLACE to teach, to learn, to meet new friends, to overall advance numismatics. I have an urge to do great things with this...

    How do we know you're not a communist or a terrorist?
  • Sorry, Russ, but you gotta put pennies and dimes and stuff in there too. He said the greatest of all time. That means gold coins and refrences to the coin vault on tv and everything. Thats a lot of stuff to talk about. You seem to be a little more focused than that.

    100% right on, dude. one little tiny word of caution: web-site desc's will only go so far. the problem w/ teaching about numismatics is that a lot of it MUST be hands-on. but no question that a good site would be a great starting point for the newbies. i wish you lotsa luck.

    That is a good start, now if you could get rid of the JFK's.

  • First of all, it sounds great.

    Next off, free advice worth exactly what you pay for it image

    You might want to take it a little slowly and get a little something started before getting too overwhelmed with people responding to your offer with ideas, etc.

    A little focus might be needed first when shooting for the greatest numismatic website, not quite as much focus as Russ image, but a little to start with. I think it is easier to start slowly and get a site with a 'feel' and a certain consistancy to it first and then add in things, making sure they work properly, before adding more things. The last thing you want to do is have people start coming to your site and pages are half done, broken or non-existant. A good place to start would be with an actual index.html page on your site.

    Again, good luck!

  • If you would have read the whole post at the beginning - you would not have just said half of what you did.
  • Really? I read it and just read it again? What half?

    Welcome aboard. Well, it looks like you're looking for volunteers rather
    than conscripts.

    You set modest goals! I admire your enthusiasm and hope you stick with it to completion. All I can add is I've been working on a site for almost a year now and its probably a full year from being where I want it to be. And it only covers gem state coins of one series! Anything I can do to help let me know, always enjoy watching new web ventures grow.
  • Thank you shylock...

    This site has been under planning for about a year itself ( sorry you cant see it right now ) My site seems to be hel hostage right now. Two servers are fighting over it.... LOL

    NOTE: The site and EMAIL are not currently in order I will sart a new thread when this issue is resolved.

    Thanks Again everybody.

    Matt

    PS: TO STUJOE > Nice Website
  • Oh, I read that.

    Since the first response to your initial post took 4 minutes and there was nothing on your domain to see at that time (or when I replied) I figured 1. You have nothing much for the site yet 2. You didn't bother to check the accessibility of your own site before posting about it or 3. You knew your server was going down in the next couple of days and put it out there for people to look at anyway.

    I thought all of my reply was taking into account all three especially when I said:

    << <i> making sure they work properly, before adding more things. The last hing you want to do is have people start coming to your site and pages are half done, broken or non-existant. A good place to start would be with an actual index.html page on your site. >>

    Never the less, the advice was free and you got what you paid for and as an added bonus you won't have to worry about any more advice coming from my end.

    Again, good luck.

    I use to admin. several websites dealing with legal services. (see www.jurisearch.com and www.ggmmlaw.com, I can't post the third that ended in a lawsuit in federal court in San Francisco) I am a newbie to collecting, so I don't think I can offer much expertise. But if you find a spot for me let me know. I am an attorney, if that helps - no lawyer jokes please.

    Originally NumismaticsOnline was an online auction house. Their logo was an Indian head cent without a date. I'm sure several more of the "oldtimers" can remember it. I bought many coins from the dealers there and was going to sign up to use it myself when it was bought out and killed. Not an original name!
