AG bust dollar

I'm thinking of getting the Capital Holders type set which needs a bust dollar. How hard are these to get in a nice AG, original and most important, non-counterfeit?

I can see Braddick having a field day with this one...

Not hard just pretty expensive. Probably close to $1,000.
  • Does an AG-03 1798-common type go for about $210-?

Amount of detail on a non-net ag3 coin.

I don't think there really is a "nice" ag3 coin or it would be a higher grade.
If I were looking for a bargain I would try to find a net graded coin that has been cleaned as you are probably going to get alot more detail than with a "probelm free" of the same grade.

glad to see someone w/ guts, like placid, make that point. you can get a heckuva lot for you $ if your willing to overlook a "problem" coins faults. i have a 1797 half that's been bent, holed, plugged & scratches removed, but it has f-12 detail, and i love it. cost me only $6500. a "real" fine"? 20,000. thats more than what my car cost!

to your question though, i've seen "real" ag-3 bust dollars for $350. draped/sm-eagle more like $500, flowing-hair, at least $600. hope this helps.
