1983 Linc.

Just found this .The reverse is covered with air bubbles, the memorial is just about gone and the C in cent is doubled from 6 o'clock to 8 o'clock.I can not tell about the rest of the letters because of the bubbles.I know there is a d/d listed for the one cent on the reverse.Has anyone encountered this? The C sure is doubled.I would sure appreciate your opinions.

It's not too unusual for the bubbles on the zinc cents to make them look
like they have something doubled. I've seen a few where it was the only
    bubble on the coin.

  • Cladking: I understand what you are saying but,in and around the C there are no bubbles. The two curves in that portion of the C are not related to the bubbles. If you drew a line in that portion of the C you would have two curves from 6 to 8 o'clock.(that's how the C looks)

A lot of the zinc cents have areas that appear to be strongly doubled. I'm not
sure anyone knows exactly what's causing this, but it's probably related to an
existing bubble when the coin was struck. It's not impossible that you have a
previously unreported variety, but the date of the coin and it's problems do
lead to a more common explanation.

  • While there is a doubled die reverse for the 1983, your description only describes minimal doubling. In any event, if the coin is so badly bubbled as to obscure the error, I doubt it's value is very high.
    Here's a pic I found of the 1983.
