Tone feinds - what do you think of this Franklin?

You don't see this date very often toned

So the questions:

1. What do you think of the toning?

2. Care to guess at the price?

  • Frank,

You are correct about the 1962 being a difficult year to find a nicely toned Franklin. Too bad this coin is too softly struck to be an FBL!
MS 66 is also an elusive grade for this year. I wouldn't be surprised to see it go for $2000.

  • I don't collect toned coins, but they're fun to look at and I find them appealing. There's a nice rainbow in the left obverse field, but the rest is too splotchy. The reverse is even worse, with unattractive brown and dark purple toning. Personally I don't find it too appealing, and wouldn't expect it to reach too high a premium. But maybe I'm spoiled as to the amount of rainbow toned Morgans people put on their threads. And of course I don't know much about Franklins. Anyway, just my opinion.

It's not bad on the obverse. It's not stunning.

I have a gut feeling that the colors aren't as vibrant as the bright photo suggests.

It looks like PCGS may have given this one a ever so slight nod up the scale for the color. Blast white? -Bet it would be in MS65 plastic.
    Neat coin though.

  • Pat:

I called them in the off chance that it was reasonably priced - yeah right. $2700.

You can almost get 3 MS65FBL's of that date for that much. Oh well, so it goes, I'll stick to finding nicely toned Morgans for under $100 image

I figured they wanted stupid money for that coin (and thus the reason for my smiley!).

I'd have to see ANACONDA color on that one before paying that minimum.

I guess he feels the coin speaks for itself. I didn't notice and sales pitch or description. I like to know what a seller thinks about their coin - it helps me to assess how the transaction may go, and I would really like to know just how this coin supposedly toned. Maybe it looks better in person, but personally, it doesn't impress me.
