Walser Washington quarter Registry set for sale

Was just surfing the net and discovered that Mr. Walser has turned his recently-pedigreed Washington quarter set over to David Lawrence Coins for them to sell. I know his set was recently sent to PCGS for pedigree. I know he was hoping for some upgrades, but I'm not aware of what coins (if any) he was able to get upgrades on. Maybe we will hear from Mr. Walser to find out if he was able to get any upgrades. Must be tough to let go of a premium set once all the fun and joy (not to mention all the money invested!) of collecting it is complete. Hope he makes a buck or two on his sales. Lot of big-dollar coins for sale. The'32-D (MS65) alone $19,995. with the current dealer discount! Wow, some monster coins in that set!

Bill, congratulations on the completion/pedigree of another fine set of coins!

Best regards,

Bill assembled a magnificent collection of Mint State Wash. silver quarters and many of the individual coins will make sensational upgrades for many collectors out there. I just bought a handful or two of the coins myself from the site. Collections like this do not come around very often and the great coins dissapear in a flash.

And congrats to DLRC for being selected as Walser's firm of choice to dispose of his collection. DLRC does an exceptional job of marketing coins like these. image Wondercoin.

  • I ordered the 42-S at what will be a nice price if the coin is decent, which it supposedly is.

Jon: I thought of you when I ordered the 42(s)!! When they were processing my order, they told me something must have just happened to the 42(s)!!!! Geez - that's scary!! image Wondercoin

  • Sorry, I got tired of waiting. image If you're the one who ordered the 37-S which was sold by the time I called then you have your payback. I asked about some others like the 40-D but after getting descriptions I figured I'd just go with this one. Hope it puts an end to my search.
  • I too was looking for that 37-S. Seems I just wasn't fast enough. I'm sure it will come around again. I'll just troll this web site I saw once called wondercoin and see if anything comes by that I like! image

DLRC had a 1968 Kennedy in 69DCAM from the Walser collection right about when I was thinking the one I already owned was not quite as nice as I'd like. Checked the site, ordered and unordered it about six times. Couldn't make up my mind because no scan was posted. Sent a request for a scan. My pathological impatience took over, bought the coin before they even had time to send the scan.

    Glad I did, it's a beauty.image

Jon: No. I wasn't fast enough for the 37(s) (was that an MS66 coin?).

I did manage to pick up some neat MS67 quarters though. image Wondercoin.

  • You guys must have already picked up all the beauties out of the set, I'm sorry but some of the remaining coins up there were not very attractive to me in the least.

and some ridiculous prices to boot!
  • Agreed on some prices. However, considering that the last two PCGS MS-66's 1942-S I tried to buy got away from me at $300-400 each (which is admittedly too much) I was pleased at the opportunity to check one out for $236 postpaid.

Mitch, the 37-S was a 66 and was $650. I think I'll wait for a nice one in a NGC holder for a fraction of the price. image

Bill's quarters have been selling like hotcakes; over half of them are gone already. Wish I'd gotten home earlier so I could grab a couple.

That was a good deal on the '42-S, Jon. The population currently seems high in relation to other dates, but that's because the '42-S is a better date, and has been a popular candidate for certification since 1986; most other dates after 1940 were seldom certified prior to the State quarter program.

Bill's MS silver Wash quarter collection was among perhaps a half dozen powerhouse PCGS Wash quarter collections out there, registered and unregistered that I am aware of. The importance of Bill selling his set in the manner he did, is that number of powerhouse PCGS Wash collections drops to around -5- and, no doubt a number of these collections got a bit stronger today in picking up a piece or two from Bill. Another interesting development is that these remaining -5- powerhouse collections are in as strong hands as ever before. Many of these collectors have -0- interest in selling coins for years to come despite short term ups or downs in the market. In prior years, there have been several collectors that built great Wash quarter sets, but were doing it more in the name of investment or as a short term project. Best I know, the class of collectors that presently own the finest MS Wash quarters are, for the most part, serious collectors interested in buiding a world class set over years and years of time. As great MS Wash quarters hit the marketplace from here, it should be very interesting to see the levels achieved for those coins. image Wondercoin

  • Thanks to all the board members who gobbled up this set. All but a handful of coins were gone within 48 hours.

I wanted to thanks Bob Zaps for his help in building this set. Many of the tougher coins were either located or made by Bob. For those specializing in Washington quarters, including the tougher varieties, Bob is a tremendous resource.

Had it not been for some heart surgery and a new Porsche turbo, I never would have parted with this set.
