NGC to PCGS Grading Question

How likely is it that an NGC MS69 would be graded by PCGS as an MS69? If anyone has had any experience, would appreciate sharing it. It's my understanding that PCGS is more conservative and an NGC would probably grade a 67 or 68.

Also, is it possible to tell when a coin was graded by PCGS? Reason I ask is I've run into 3 of the same "key" dates on a certain coin with a pop of about 50. Doesn't seem right that they would all come up in a 1-2 week span and by the same person.

Thank you in advance for your insight.

You didn't state the series, so I'm going to guess it is an American Silver Eagle (based on the MS69 grade).
It's not the coin wouldn't necessarily be worthy, but you won't have luck crossing these from NGC to PCGS.

To be fair though, you probably wouldn't have a ton of luck going the other way around either.

  • Makes sense that one indiviual would have three or more of the same grade coin. Possibly a dealer who looked at hundreds and submitted the best or just a nut like me that picks up every coin of a certain year and grade that comes on the market! image

Without knowing the coin it is impossible to tell. An MS69 early commemorative - not a chance in hell even if the coin deserved it. An MS69 modern commemorative, you have a good chance.
