just got the grades on both toned coins

I just got the grade on the Proof lincoln today reverse , obverse NGC graded it proof 63 RB. The half dime I actually got back a week or two ago It got body bagged obverse , reverse. I also sent in a 1982 no FG half it graded MS66, two 1996-w dimes one ms67 and one ms68, a 1885 morgan I cracked out of an old ANA ms65 slab it up-graded to MS66, also I had a few columbians graded 62- 63 one with some dark and colorful toning. 1839 dime graded AU58 and a few more coins with good grades. Overall I had two coins(the other a was a 3CS) body bagged out of 30 which I am pretty happy with since I knew the wildly toned ones are always susceptible to the body bag. image mike

Excellent! Is that 1942 Lincoln a "keeper" for you? (hint, hint...)

  • Question dark:

Why was the half dime bodybagged? Looks nice!

Was this a PCGS submission? If so, then good pick on the ANACS Morgan, I think. Do you have an image (that works image ) of it? (I got an error on the Lincoln reverse - my luck it will work when I try again) image

Silly me. NGC submission. Now I really want to see the Morgan. image

Hi Gilbert, I did not take a picture before I sent it in and it was just sent back to me yesterday but when I get it back I can post a picture of it.

Hey Mike thanks for taking the time.

Not as much color as I expected; I don't know, when somebody describes a coin as "toned" in a general sense, I'm thinking the coin has some coverage. I would describe this a brilliant with "rim toning." Big difference. I hope that doesn't sound negative to you.

That's what I've come to expect from NGC graded Morgans. It looks like a nice coin, but, I think I would prefer to have it in my collection as a solid 65 - I admit the image isn't close enough for me to categorically declare the coin's grade. I also admit I am overly critical - that's why I would much prefer buying raw or from trusted folks who are not bound by the slab grade. It's also why I don't buy many coins per year, and slab even fewer. image

What you think of your '96-W Roosie? You feel it really is a 68? I'm having a hard time adjusting to the low relief Roosevelt dime and Washington quarters. Maybe I'm just hung up on seeing "die polish lines, tooling and high relief." What can I say!?

I remember when you posted the ½D weeks agp asking for opinions on it and have been waiting to find out how it went. Bummer!!
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

Dog- those were some pretty close coins to call( the proof lincoln and half dime) so I am still happy to get one of the two graded. I think they both could have gone either way. image

            - I only meant in my original post that the proof lincoln and the half dime were toned. You are right the 1885 $ only has rim toning. The 1996 W roosevelt is a coin I am really unfamiliar in these grades so I don't really have an opinion on it's grade except it appears flawless to me and it really stands out. image mike

Way to go on the grades, I have an ANACS 1900-0 MS65 Morgan that I am hoping will upgrade to a 66, it's close.

          • The 1885 Morgan is beautiful darktone. Congrats on the up-grade! I really like rim toning. I have 2 questions for you. Is the coin fully struck? And is it a "keeper"? Very nice dollar!
careful- that light at the end of the tunnel might be a freight train!
