Home U.S. Coin Forum

Hello

At my son's proding, and as a form of introduction to the other members that post on this forum, I offer the following for your consideration. Have been a coin accumulator since 1972, became a coin dealer two years ago when the Market started going south and my golf handicap started going north. Started selling on eBay to have "something to do", and it has turned into a fulltime occupation. Have followed some of the threads on this board with emotions ranging from puzzlement to incredulity, have chuckled at some and guffawed at others. I have come to the conclusion that there is a wealth of knowledge represented by some of members that are frequent posters to this board. It is my hope that I may be able to make some contribution through my postings that will be of benefit to the community. And finally, if any of you has any problems with any of my postings, please take the matter up with Petescorner. He's the one that got me into this.

Welcome to the board. I'm also new and have learned quite a bit in just the month I've been involved. If I offend anyone can I tell them to contact Petescorner too?image

    What's your name on ebay?

I think we should all reply to Petescorner.

Russ, I have some slabbed proof JFKs. The bigger question is, can I find them? My name on eBay is "danglen", but the majority of what I sell is topical material and stuff that's unusual. I'll go look for the JFKs.

  • Welcome to the board, Dad! It's about time you joined here. image

For everyone else, my Dad is the one who got me into coin collecting a couple of years ago. So when I found this forum, with all the great people who post here, I tried for quite a while to get him to come by and join in the fun. Glad to see he finally quit with the "I'm too busy" responses. Lord knows, the rest of us have our priorities straight. image
  • You owe us big time, Dan. He's all ready posted an obscene limerick, offered grading opinions on two DMPL's, and told poor Bear to "get the heck out of Dodge, crackpot!"

He's going to fit right in! Welcome to the boards, danglen!

Welcome ... anyone that Pete (or oops, Dan, just noticed!) vouches for is OK in my book. Have some fun and mix it up with us!

  • Danglen--you don't mess around. You've had or are having 1,216 auctions in the past month. You're a wild man. Yor prices are pretty good too.

Ok .. now I know what Dan meant by bidding on eBay auctions with a certain seller and asking for the 50-percent "family" discount by dropping his name! image

Numish, thanks for the plug. Anyone can run 1,200 auctions a month if they don't have a life. I think I'm still married....hear noises in other parts of the house from time to time.image

I find that in most of my dealings with Petescorner, he gets the 100% family discount image

Good of you to introduce yourself, danglen. I saw on the other thread that you were in Advanced Grading the first week this summer, so we were in the same class after all. I sat just about across from you, 2nd seat, in between the older guy from Texas and the younger guy from Oklahoma who were both dealers. I remember you were sitting next to the guy who came in late every day and didn't really know very much. Here's a warm welcome to the board!

It's amazing to me that out of the 15 or so people in that class, there are now three students (you, Trime, and I) and one instructor (coinguy1) who are members of this board.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

Kranky, I plan to take the Advanced Grading course again next summer. Gail Baker has agreed to add a two day segment on detecting "problem" coins. I would certainly like to increase my ratio of slabs to "body bags". Even one out of 20 is too many.

Be careful, those noises could be coming from the burglars who are taking what little you have left! image
