Have you seen the 09sVDB?

Has anyone seen the 1909sVDB MS65RD on Whitlow's site? Looks like a great coin. But my gosh, did I fall asleep for 10 years? The price is about as high as I've seen for one lately.

Must really be premo!

    It's a steal if it upgrades !!!!!!!!
  • Hey Stewart - I can't wait 'til you unmask your 09-58 Lincoln set. Mershon's is awesome (at least on paper) and as I am a "wheataholic" I'm sure your set will drop me!

I tried to get a PCGS 65RD 09-SVDB recently (on ebay no less) but was sniped at the last second. The prices on the near top (or top) pop early Lincolns is unbelievable!!

I continue to strive on the wheaties!! (Yesterday #26, today #27) - aaarrrghh - see earlier thread on this forum.

P.S. The IHC "showdown " cannot be missed!!

The coin is not rare, just difficult to find a strong, spot free65.In my opinion.Al
  • I think Stewart was joking. Of course he doesn't have a "1909 s vdb in ms 65 red", he probably has 5 or 6 BETTER than that.

It looks great for a 65, even taking into consideration the light blasted imaging. There are two ways to look at it. Lets say in person it's as nice a 65RD as you'll find, a 65.5+. At $1000 over the recent prices realized for 65RDs it's a bargain when you do the math (vs. a 66RD price). But if the label has a strong influence on you, $1000 is too high a premium for a PQ coin in this price range.

I've always had a problem with the limits certified grading puts on beautiful 65RD coppers. Many deserve the price a fractional grading system would offer (half the difference between 65 & 66), but the label always keeps it much closer to the 65 price in the market.

    Paul,

I think you make a good point and that's possibly the situation here. I was going to call Mike and ask him about the coin buy, haven't taken the time. Maybe tomorrow. image

With the differences in grading standards between PCGS and NGC, do you really think they need to start spliting hairs? image

Seems to me they need to focus more on combing the hairs they have, before they start spliting them. image
