PSA submission from various Topps Sets

I'm going to be submitting a batch of cards from my raw sets that have cards in various conditions from ex to (hopefully) nrmt/mt. image What common cards from '62 Topps, '63 Topps, '69 Topps, '70 Topps should I check to see if I can make an "8"?

Thanks for any input!

  • Are you looking to sell once graded? If so check the POP reports. And send in the rarest ones. If not send in what you like.

On '62 and '63 Topps, anything in PSA 8 condition should be graded. The same is probably true for '69 and '70 Topps.

    My advice...

Send a small batch first - maybe 25 cards. Before you send - write down what you believe the grades will be. Then when the grades pop up - see how close you are. This will prevent you from sending in tons of cards before you're sure that you're really going to get 8's or better. Most commons 7 and below will barely bring back the grading fees when sold.

When you get the cards back - check out those that received a grade different from what you expected. Learn from it.

  • I figure everything that I send in is a 6. When I get my grades back, I'm never disappointed!

Seriously, follow FB's advice. It's the only way to keep the learning curve as inexpensive as possible

Thanks for the advice, I'm actually only going to try about 8-10 commons. I am sending many stars in due to my belief that having them graded will help me accurately describe the condition if/when I decide to sell them.

Can anyone help me with the low pop '63s, I don't have access to the Pop report.

  • I'd be a buyer/bidder on just about any of these 1963 cards. Nearly all are less than 15 pop. in 8, most are less than 10.

  • Not all '63s are created equally, though. Some are seriously over-populated and won't even bring a bid.

But it's such a tough set to get an 8 on cards. Print defects, chipping on the colored borders and o/c on certain cards.
  • Sagard....My buddy Toppsgun left out a very amazing '63 in PSA 8 condition. #28 Mike Fornieles in PSA 8. There's 5 PSA 8's in the world....and nothing higher......we're all gonna need it sooner or later.

    Thank you all again!

    A couple of last questions:

    1. Please take a look at this scan.

The Davis card doesn't fade as shown in the scan.

These are the type of quality I'm considering submitting, any comments on the centering of the Davis or Kolstad which is ever so slightly diamond cut.

    2. Do the low series of '63 Topps have lower pops due to them being easier to find and not always worth the submission costs?

The centering and "diamond cut" are definitely in the 8 range. Those look like some sharp cards. I am interested to see your return.

Just an update, the Duffalo and Kolstad made 8's the Davis a 7. My first impression of PSA submissions is that the range of condition of a 7 is very wide. Some cards that I wouldn't have called nrmt made it, and some that I thought were clearly nrmt/mt were also 7's. I need to see the cards again to get another look.
