1981 Topps

Uniship,

I started this not to take away from carlos.

Well almost all the 10's came from a run of rack cases. I'd rather not say the no's. I'd say I've scanned over 75 thousand 81's. Thats all case fresh cards huh. Out of the 120 tens turned 100 have been from me. The pop report will balance out in the future since I've been pretty much the only one submitting. I sold 30 tens back in jan. to a gent that I just wrote an email to last night trying to aquire them back for making another set. I sold the schmidt to we all know who dumb move and raines when I first started. I'm sitting on a brett in a lock ten and dawson waiting to go in with another 500 that should launch me to 75%. Then it's all downhill from their as I refuse to fill this set with slider 9's for now at least we'll see how desperate I get.

So that's the story if anyone is looking for nice 9's and wan't to get this bugger started lmk as I'm sitting on a slew of doubles at the moment.

Matt

What do you mean dumb move on the Schmidt? I gave you a huge premium for the card? That being said -- there is a Leaders card (I think it is #2 or #3) that you have in your set in PSA 10. The card pictures Mike Schmidt on it. I will offer you five examples of the card in PSA 9 plus $100- for it, which I think is a very generous offer. I would love to add that card to my set -- and I think that the cards and money I am offering you can certainly by some nice vending/racks that would yield you more 10's for your set.

All the best! You are the first bastion trying to build a 1980s set in PSA 9 or better -- and 1981 is a horror for 10's (but for your submissions, that is)

  • Gator,

You are to be admired for the effort and diligence on that set. Will you be auctioning/sellling any PSA 10's in the near future?

  • Schmitty,

As for the card I'll hold until I turn a dup. As for your comment on the 81 10's being a horror on my submissions. Are you telling me that I don't know what I'm doing or maybe I took it wrong. I've submitted maybe 900 cards. 100 of the 120 tens I've turned that leaves the rest of the world sitting with 20 for 3500 cards or so not looking at the pop off hand. I'll take the same deal I gave you and throw in an extra 100 bucks for the schmidt and the phillies. I said this time and time again there is a certain run of no's that yield the 10's. Keep in mind the second and third set on the registry all cards but 5 have came from me.

    Uni,

I'll be listing some 81's tonight with a tim foli 10 and carlton rb 10 with a slew of 9's. With the market as soft as it is at the moment if I don't get what I wan't I'll hold and start building another. These have no where to go but up. Clean looking 81's are cool looking yet getting by the sun flares, chipping and centering probs are the key.

Thanks for the kind words, Matt

The way I read it, the way he's using "but for your submissions" should be taken to mean "except for your submissions". There are people who use "but" for "except" in certain situations, and it is gramatically correct.

So full of action, my name should be a verb.
  • Mike,

Hey thanks for pointing that out, up here in michigan we don't practice are grammar to much. Just which way the winds blowing and how hard. The fish biting etc. How big the acorn crop (will the deer be moving. I've been on a charter boat on lake michigan all summer. My grammar is limited to FISH ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry -- I work with lawyers too much. Mcastaldi was correct -- I was saying that you have an amazing rate of success in getting PSA 10's from 1981 Topps, whereas no one else does. Your efforts are admired.

As for your Schmidt leaders card in PSA 10 -- name your price, and I'll be there for you. I can give you very generous trade offers -- enough to buy you one or two more rack cases, which surely must be able to give you enough raw cards to find you some more 10's.

    All the best-

  • Schmitty,

No problem, I watch hooked on phonics before I go to any public fuctions with my future wife (school teacher) haha. As for your offer sounds great yet I'll hold this set needs some power. If I land this dawson and brett which I should if I don't I'll be standing at the psa booth wondering why, then I might consider it.

Do you have anything in redman with tabs raw by chance or any 78's graded.

    Sincerely, Matt
  • Guys,

81's are up on ebay under GATOR05. Lots of blazers.
