PCGS Believes they are number one. Does NGC agree?

There is a thread running on the Registry side where I ask the question of whether PCGS should allow NGC coins into their Registry such as NGC allowing PCGS into theirs. Avis and Hertz rental cars used to battle it out with Avis always claiming, "We Try Harder". They admitted to being number two.
Now, PCGS believes, both publicly and privately they're the number one grading service, right?
Does NGC privately believe this too? Does NGC concede that PCGS is better overall than they?
If not, why do they allow PCGS coins into their Registry?

Last time I had coffee with the Pres of NGC, he said yes, PCGS is number one and NGC will never catch up.

NGC is #2
I see it as simple as that !
I think NGC is saying they are on par with PCGS and accept that their grading is very similar; I don't think PCGS could ever admit that they are even close with another service; once the best, always the best.

NGC grades more coins - this could easily define "number one". NGC has a customer service attitude - this could easily define "better overall".
Oh, you mean will NGC start undergrading coins to market in order to continue to bring amazing prices? Or will they intentionally stop giving certain grades as part of a combined submissions/retail profit scheme? I doubt it, so they must not be number one!

Edited to add: number one for how long should be the question.

I think NGC's allowing of PCGS coins in their registry is a concession of ONLY that their registry service is late in getting off the ground than PCGS' registry service. Perhaps it also is intended as a nice customer relations gesture, as airplanenut suggests. In that case, I think it worked.

As far as it being that simple, as Huligan says... I think his view is even simpler. TDN's questions are on the mark: there is no definition of what it means to be #1 or what it means to be better.
The actions of NGC along the registry front has minimal to zero bearing on them as a GRADING service. Let's keep in mind that unlike PCGS, NGC does not operate a retail outlet for their own widgets. Their main offering is the authentication, attribution, grading and encapsulation of coins. The registry service is just a nicety that helps to popularize their firm and raison d'etre.

#1 in total submissions? That'd be NGC.
#1 in prices realized for a grade? PCGS.
#1 in terms of consistency of grading? ANACS, imho.
#1 in customer service? Either NGC or ICG.
#1 in David Hall's catalog? PCGS.
The list goes on...
