Here's the perfect example of how PCI used to grade!

PCI used to get it right. A lot. For a little over a year now PCI has turned into the second worse grading service out there (well, maybe the third worse if NTC is a consideration-).

All PCI needed was the right promotion and acceptance into organizations like Teletrade to become legit. Instead, they painfully went the lazy route and for all intent and purposes among the serious collector: they crashed and burned.

Here is the perfect example though of how PCI used to grade:

Perhaps not as over-graded as it probably would be if submitted raw today to PCI,but still,I,d go with 10,but not a 15.JMO.

I agree Braddick. I think the only criticism with the old PCI was there inconsistency with the mint state grading, which was similar with comments we have made concerning ANACS. The Hallmark slabbed coins were usually decent too. I mean, you coulndn't go and bid sight unseen, like a crazy man, but the coins were usually close.

Inconsistency is right-maybe inept is better-I cherrypicked a brilliant Proof 1936 in old PCI MS63 holder a while back-cost me all of $35. It was toned, butt there's still no excuse......

    Buffalo nickel, that is.
  • My only experience with PCI is an 1837 Bust Half Graded AU58 by PCI. I cracked it out and send it to PCGS and it came back AU50.
I am no longer looking for an 1815/2
