I finished my Washington set today!

Yes, today I finished my set of Circ washingtons, in 5 folders, with my really crappy, cleaned, whizzed AG 32-S. Sure it's nothing spectacular, but I wanted to collect these like I would if I was still a kid, so I got most of them from circulation, or from junk silver bins, and set a price limit of $33 (which is the inflation adjusted equivalent of $20 when I was 15 years old, a lot of money to me then). So now I have them all, 70 years, and the most expensive was the AG 32-D for $32 and this 32-S for $20. It was a really fun experience expecially reliving the joy of collecting like I did as a kid.

jtryka - Completing any set on a limited budget, takes a lot of effort, good bargaining and patience.

  • It was a fun set, took me about a year, and the funny thing is that most of them can be bought for melt even in pretty good shape (I am talking XF-AU here). The only ones that were more than $10 were the 32 D and S, and best of all I didn't have to haggle over grades! Though I suppose I could have haggled on the 32-D since it was really an AG-2 not an AG-3! image

That sounds like a great idea Marty, unfortunately the youngest kids I have in my family now are my cousins and they are both in college now, so I figure why waste all that work when I can just write them checks to cover beer and pizza!

  • I think I might try mercury dimes next, since i already finished the other currently circulating coins. Thought the 16-D might be a problem (perhaps I can bend the rules to allow imaginary birthday gifts!) image
  • LOL....if you can include the 16-D....you could make bithday wishes BE true image
On another note, My wife asked for a FULL merc set.... I said, " No problem, I'll need to work a FEW more hours each day for awhile", she said , "OK!!".....LOL....off to work I go.... image

Posts like this make me smile, I did the same thing with roosie's and I was able to complete the entire set for less than $50. It's a fun diversion from looking at digital pictures online of coins you never will be able to own due to their cost.
