Little Help

Guys,

If you folks could be so polite to teach me how to add my registry sets at the bottom of the page I'd appreciate it. Computer skills lack unless I am hunting on ebay.

go to the profile tab at the top of the forum pages, then enter the following - using brackets [ ] instead of parentheses ( ) - into the section marked "signature":

    (L=SETnameHERE)httpLINKtoYOURsetHERE(/L)"

it will look something like this:

    (L=yawie's 1910-11 c56's)http://www.psacard.com/new_set_registry/display_cards.chtml?rsetid=2996&alltime=no&rank=2&tied=0&requesttimeout=9999(/L)

almost 40 percent with a 9.20 average - impressive! i'm almost a bit jealous, as '81 was the year i started buying cards. i still remember walking to gasen's drugs with my mom in the evenings and searching the cello boxes for packs with cardinals on top. how quaint it now seems.

  • Ah so your a cardinal man huh!!! This is the second set I owned as a kid the first was 81 donruss I passed on that one for now yet I love all the pics with wrigley. The 81's have gave me a slew of trouble lots and lots of cases to achieve where I'm at now. Actually once I send in the rest that I have sleeved I should sit at 70% with the same results.

    Thanks again, Matt
  • Hey Steve.
I'm quite impressed with your collection and how you got your card scans on your registry. I've tried this with my 88-89 OPC's and i guess my scans are to big??? Says they can't be over 100Kb. Do you have any tips or any ideas of what i might be doing wrong???
Maybe i have to adjust something on my scanner? Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    BEN

hey! what's up, ben? i noticed that you listed your '88-89s recently. anyway, i think my scanner's default setting is 200dpi, so i resize the image to about 125dpi or so. then it's just a matter of playing around with the jpeg quality option - i usually use the upper reaches of "medium" quality - to get the scan under 100kb. my scans usually wind up around 85-95kb, depending on the exact dpi setting i use, how much of the holder i end up including and so on. i hope that helps.

and good luck with your set. the idea of '80s graded set (probably '82 or '83) has been fermenting in the back of my mind, but i have enough irons in the fire right now - not to mention a new baby. if psa 9 '80s commons ever start routinely showing up on ebay, i may try to build such a set.

Ben -- Yawie's right. It depends upon the scanner as to how you lower the "quality" of the scan. However, for the Internet, high resolution isn't necessary. My scanner can scan a single card at about 3 MB (or 30X what is allowed). The scans I posted are about 60K (or 2% of the file size of maximum resolution) and they look just fine.
  • Hey Steve.
Congratulations on the baby! Read your "ME" page on Ebay and noticed you know have a little girl. Very cool!

Thank you for the tips with the scanner. Think i finally got it figured out. I set the dpi to 75 and lowered the quality. Finally got it to upload and i just attached my prized possesion that i got back from PSA today. Hope it turns out ok. I'll have to check after i post this.

You should definetly register one of those early 80's sets. I'm pretty sure you already got a great start on either one of them. Man the centering would be killer on those cards! Not to mention the OPC cut.
    Should be a fun challenge!

I'm a little ashamed that i haven't added the Hull or Shanahan RC's on my registry yet. But i'm working on it. Just got 100 commons in the mail today. Mostly NRMNT-MT. Not overly excited about getting 200 or so, 15 cent cards graded but i guess you have to take care of the dirty work sometime. Not going to do it all at once. It will be a VERY slow process.

Going to put a bid on that Morris PSA 9 RC you have on Ebay. I could use that one.

    Take it easy.
    BEN

    Vargha thanks for the help.

thanks, ben. i've actually registered all i have of my graded '80-81 through '84-85 cards. i've got a bunch of '82, '83 and '84 commons, but a cursory inspection of them didn't reveal many worth submitting. i used to buy wax boxes of that stuff for like $8 a pop when i first discovered card shops around '85 or so, but i didn't really take that great of care of the commons. and even if i had, the centering and cuts would kill most of them anyway.

  • Ebay seller "qcards"
Noticed this guy had several good lots of early 80's hockey stuff on his third page. But it kinda looked like the early the years the worse the condition.

qcards is an excellent seller. He resides just outside of Ottawa and has plenty of Hockey cards. Keep an eye on his auctions, he is a good grader, and once in a while comes across some excellent lots.
