PCGS forum rules - and how they came about

DHeathDHeath Posts: 8,472 ✭✭✭
For those of you relatively new to the forums, I thought you'd enjoy seeing how peaceful this place used to be (tongue in cheek), and how the forums became moderated. In this thread, John (administrator) also laid out PCGS rules for posts to these boards.

Old thread.

On page two, John said this about posts here:

These are the rules that we have defined for our message boards:

COMMUNITY RULES

1. Keep it clean... Kids collect too.
2. Don't spam the community, i.e. no unsolicited ads.
3. Buy, Sell, and Trade messages belong on the Buy, Sell, and Trade message
boards.
4. Collectors Universe reserves the right to remove messages that we deem have no
purpose other then to bash our company or blatantly promote our competitors.

Any rules beyond that have been created by the community. In general, you all have done a great job of policing yourselves, and we rarely get involved.

As for the recent arguments, to be honest I haven't read them in any detail. I don't have time to read the nearly 2,000 messages a day posted on our various message boards. The threads that I have read include things like "this is becoming as bad as rec.collecting.coins" and "there's no discussion of coins anymore, just arguments." If the choices presented for this poll somehow insinuated an opinion about the subject of the arguments, it was unintended. I don't have one. My concern is with insuring that this continues to be a place for collectors of all ages to learn about coins and have fun.

Thanks,
John

Don - You seem to be the Forum Historian and I can not think of a more qualified person.
Thank you for bringing up these repeat threads from time to time. It saves us all from having
to reinvent the wheel. Rules are what turn anarchy into constructive ,
    pleasent and beneficial activities. Bear

  • Very informative. Although I'm sure I didn't break any of those rules, I would have liked to read them when I signed up a few weeks ago. I'm sure all the new people getting on these boards have no idea what kind of ground rules are present. These rules are very fair, and I believe they should be made available when you sign up and receive your password; perhaps with an email.

Goyankeez - Dont worry, if you break the rules (you havn't seen) too often , you get to go thru
    the Forums version
of "CYBER GANG BANG ". This consists of a fun filled several days of being instructed in the finer
    points of Forum Etiquet. Bearimage

It can be painful for some, but it generally leaves the recipient
a wiser more sociable and open minded person. It has turned a number of rebels into some of
our most valuable , constructive and intellegent Forum members.
