The link doesn't work but the attachment does. As for the coin, the toning looks natural to me.

I'm not 100% sure, but I'm quite sure it is natural. Especially the smoother color transitions and the colors are also in the hidden areas of the devices smoothly.
  • You have the LW seal of approval for real toning on this coin. It looks like a nice specimen!image

  • Looks good to me too. You probably are suspicious because Washingtons don't usually have such attractive toning. They tend more toward the hazy mustard colors or splotchy dark greys and blacks.
Buy the coin...but be sure to pay for it.

I'm generally suspicious of any rainbow toning on a circulated coin.
I'd have to see this one first before passing judgement.

I'm leaning toward artificial toning but would have to see better views to make a firmer statement.

Hi Allen. Judging by the scan it looks legit to me especially after seeing the rather drab toning on the reverse. I would think that if someone was going to AT the coin they would do a little better job on the reverse. The grade wasn't stated when sold, but after looking at it in person you think it's an AU coin? Looks like it could be MS to me. The luster looks pretty good. It might be worth submitting.

Morganluver, correct me if I'm wrong, but there are very few skilled enough to AT a coin and make it look stunning (and, real).

  • Thanks for the info, I am strongly leaning toward orginal toning, the coin does have some smoothness on the highpoints on the curls
