NL CY Young award Poll.

Who do you think will win the NL CY Young award this year?

I think that if John Smoltz breaks the record for most saves for 1 season he will win the NL CY Young award.

Please let me know what everyone else thinks.

Thank You.
Michael Baskin.

I'm hoping Smoltzie gets the Cy Young. That would be an amazing feat. Who was the last closer to win a Cy Young award? That'd be simply amazing. He's having one of the greatest closer seasons of all-time, just dominating the hitters. Peter Gammons even wrote an article about Smoltz saying how he's the best closer in the game and how he's closer to Dennis Eckersley in domination more than anyone in baseball.

Another amazing thing would be a pitcher to win a Cy Young award as a starting pitcher and as a closer. I don't think that's ever been done before. He won 24 games in 1996 along with the Cy Young, and now is on the verge of breaking the all-time saves record. Amazing!!!

Greg Maddux would be a lot closer if he hadn't had a lot of injuries this season. He leads the NL in ERA ANYWAY (2.50 or in that area), as he's done many times before. He's 12-5 and he needs only 3 more wins to have 15 straight seasons with 15+ wins, and that would tie Cy Young for the record...but it'll be close. That's also an amazing feat.

Braves are always in contention for a Cy Young award by a certain pitcher, year in and year out, because we have such great pitching. We lead the NL in team ERA (3.00) and second place is far behind with an ERA of around 3.60. Almost 60 points higher than the second place ERA leaders. Amazing. Damien Moss has had an amazing season so far, and he leads the NL in opposing batting average which is awesome for a pitcher as young as him. Glavine has taken him under his wing and taught him the great fundamentals, and Moss is starting to pitcher and look a lot like Glavine. Kevin Millwood has had a HUGE turn-around from last season. He looks like he did in '99 and is dominating. Glavine is Glavine. Maddux is Mr. Consistency and leads the NL is ERA (2.50...in that range) which isn't surprising because he's won many era titles in his career and will probably win it again this season, even though he's only 12-5. I still think he'll win 14-15 and if he gets 15, he'll tie Cy Young's record for 15 straight consecutive 15 game winning seasons. BRAVES RULE!!! There's a reason why they're on there...it's not a secret or a fluke.
