? for kennedy collectors

After looking through the most recent Numismatic News (sept 10th) i saw an article about 1964 accented hair proof kennedys. Are there worth the time to look for or are they both worth about the same (accented, and not accented)???????

Would any grade be ok or do they have to be cam/dcam?

The high-grade AH's command a premium in Cam/Dcam. The average non-cam proof is just a neat variety coin. (2% of the pop is AH)

Any Accented Hair will bring a premium over the cost of the '64 proof set, BUT you have to go through a ton of sets to find them. In the end, it's a losing proposition financially, but nonetheless rewarding for those of us who like them.image

  • Finding an Accented Hair is a great thrill. I'm not sure how many dealers know what to look for (since most dealers aren't interested in moderns). They are very easy to cherry-pick if you know what you are looking for. I recently found two at my local coin shop. I'm keeping one and auctioning the other off on Ebay..

Even in lower non-cam/dcam grades, AHs command a much higher price than their non-AH counterparts.

AH's are one of those coins that keep collecting interesting and help fill in the slow time for me at shows, shops and eBay!! another one is the Type 1 1956 franklin. it's surprising how many DEALERS don't bother to look for/are unaware of different varieties. the same goes for the average collector like me. it's impossible to know everything so i think a good approach is to focus on a certain area to become knowledgeable about. knowing a particular series or certain varieties well can help defray costs and add interest. good luck with your hunting.image

  • Asking Russ if he wants an AH is like asking Bear if he $hits in the woods. image
