1963-D PCGS MS-64FS Jeff 5c for sale here, now.

I have available for sale a 1963-D PCGS MS-64FS Jefferson nickel
for $1750.
This is a very difficult coin to locate as Jefferson aficionados know.
Will fit nicely in a PCGS registry set of full step nickels.

Nothing wrong with listing that coin on this board. This is exactly what this board was created for. People complained they could not sell on the US Forum, so they had this board created so they could sell without using the BST forum.

This is what we want here. PCGS certified coins at fixed prices. Although one might reach more collectors posting here and on BST.

I agree. I'm not a Jefferson collector but this board was set up for this type (and other conversations) of Thread.
-Good luck in its sale. Sounds like a great coin.

  • Sounds awfully expensive considering you can get an ms65 for what? $10?

Someone(not me) is selling one for 50 cents!

    1963 in ms64fs

And a roll full of 1963 nickels.......

    It's pointless to compare a 63-P 64FS 5c with the 63-D PCGS-64FS
Jefferson that I'm offering. The population is currently 7 in MS-64FS
    and 2 higher (both MS-65FS.) Last November a 1963-D PCGS-64FS
Jeff 5c brought over $3300. on E-Bay. Then the population was a
total of 3 coins in all FS grades (all being MS-64FS.)

I don't bother submitting 1963-P FS Jeffersons. I might, though, if
I thought the coin had a reasonable shot at grading MS-66FS!

    Thanks for reading. Cupronik

And, we know that nickel is full steps, how? Because an eBay seller said so?

  • I could not find a price guide so I took the price off what it sells on ebay.
The D mint had strike problems in 1963 or every year? How much is the P
    counterpart worth in ms64fs?

  • Hey Cupronik, price sounds right, you should have no problem getting it, as the serious guys know just how tough a PCGS 63-D FS is and infact a true rarity in 64FS, allthough they would rather have a 65FS more thought is and time is in play, so be patient and try to get a front and back scan if possible out in your post asap.

  • Cupronik,

I agree with Eastside, your coin is fairly priced. Now if it was a MS65FS or higher Iwould certainly be interested.

I was just lucky enough to add a 1960P MS66FS pop 1 this week.

Best of luck with your sale. I would like to see a scan too.

    Hi everyone

Frank, where do you get your nickels? Sounds like another great coin.

I've included some pics of a PCGS MS65 1963-D but woe and behold, the steps are not certified and for good reason as the 4th step is thin and comes ever so close to contact with the 3rd step under 2nd and 3rd pillars but when tilted one way then back the other, there is separation running all across between the two steps. They are the best steps I've seen for a 63-D. I believe this 63-D was once apart of the Steve Heller collection.
The other picture of steps came from an ebay auction on a PCGS MS64 FS 1963-D not so long ago.

Sure, I'd like to see your 63-D and steps. It would be great to compare. If I'm fortunate enough, I may eventually view and have pics of a PCGS MS65FS.

  • The 1963-D (non full steps) in MS64 and/or MS65 has a pop of 29/11. Still.....only 40 people can own the two highest grades. 49 if you count the full steppers. Obviously full steps are rare but do you think there are alot of MS65 coins out there that no one is bothering to have graded? A 29/11 is still a low pop number in any category.

but do you think there are alot of MS65 coins out there that no one is bothering to have graded? A 29/11 is still a low pop number in any category.

The 63-d mintage was 277 million and we're looking at about 50 that made it into a PCGS holder.
Yea, sure, I would say that's astronomically low. But I have roughly 9-10 rolls of markfree1969-D's that I picked out of a $200-4000 coin US mint bag. Would it make any sense to have them all certified to pad the PCGS pop reports? Not really, unless they were selling $5 above cost each, then I could make 2 grand
    and buy cup's 63-D.

In my opinion though, I believe the 1960's era played a major role on the quality and availability of the US minted coins.
I was just a kid during those times but a great deal of history plagued those years. The 63-D pictured most likely came from a roll and bag. It's not from a mint set as this coin has a barrage of feather bag marks with a heavy cut in the sunken area of the cheek. Personally, I grade it MS64. It’s the only date in my collection with a hit on the cheek like that. I believe there are tons of mint sets from that era that are still out there that people are sitting on and it's likely they won't surface until that generation begins dying out, in 10 to 20 years or when 40 to 45 year dealers retire and turn over their wares.

Sorry to take much time to respond to the respondents of this thread, but I only have computer access
at a friend's coin shop which is during standard business hours. Even then I'm not always present as
I visit other local shops and run my daily coin errands to the Post Office, etc.

This coin shop is not set up to do E-Bay so I am unable to provide scans of anything.

Regarding the 1963-D PCGS MS-64FS Jeff 5c, it is going out on approval to an interested party. Will
    update you on the outcome.

    Thanks. Cupronik.
