Upset about mint's redesign of Missouri Quarter

I am from the St. Louis, Mo area and am quite upset over the U. S. Mint redesign of the submissions sent in by our artist. The original design chosen by the citizens of Missouri was much more appealing than the easteregg basket design manufactered by the mint. According to a Coin World article, the author of the chosen design has 100,000 protest stickers to place on all commemorative quarters to protest the Mint's tampering with designs submitted. The article did not say how to get some of these stickers so I can join the protest. Does anyone on the forum know where they are available?
I am truly disgusted with the screwing up appealing artistic designs.

  • Seriously, call your congressman and your senators. The congress controls the mint and if the mint director hears from a senator he/she will take note. i am not saying that this will happen but its your best chance. I call or write my congressman and he showed up at my front do a couple of weeks ago. He is not in a tight election and I am in the opposite party. Your calls can and do matter.

The original design would have been the best state quarter so far. I couldn't believe how much worse the new design is. Did the mint give any reasons why they changed it so radically? Was the original impractical on a manufacturing basis? Why, why why?????
  • I'm from Missouri and to answer Numish's question, I believe the mint said that the design had two "themes" behind it and that it should have had only 1. The artist is pointing out that some of the other state quarters also had two themes, so why is his design being discriminated against?? I'm with you Numish. The original design was really pretty and I have already emailed my congressman and senators and told them as much. No answers yet though.image
  • Interestingly, after rejecting the artists design for haveing two themes, the mint somes up with their design which has the SAME two themes as the artist.
  • Yea!!! Deface all the Missouri quarters you can ! Sticker them!! hit 'em with a hammer!! If each person can deface 1 roll each, this might become the hard to find state quarter!!! (Note to self: order multiple rolls. . . .)

Seriously, though, the mint shouldn't have gone back and changed it if it could have been minted like the artist intended. I havn't seen a before and after, could someone post a pic? I do know i'm tired of the mint screwing things up, i.e. destroying proof sets because of "quality", $hitty Sac dollars, and promoting bad designs.

  • Artistic differemces, eh? I can't wait for the movie to come out.
Seems like the mint is content to simply give the appearance of letting states choose for themselves what best represents the spirit of their people. We all know the mint knows better. image
Buy the coin...but be sure to pay for it.

Scott Byergo snapped up some of the protest ones and was selling a few to board members at face value. Check the archives for details. I got two from him sitting on my counter top at home.
  • Thats why I don't bother submitting any designs. I doubt the mint will change it now, since
    they probably made dies already.
    Say no to ACG!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • This statement is posted on CoinWorld.com

United States Mint officials may meet with Missouri artist Paul Jackson to hear his complaints about changes made to his quarter design.

so this may mean that the squeaky wheel does get oiled!!
