Finished Another Phase of My Type Set

There not too many people that I can crow to about this, so I'm crowing to y'all. In '65 at age 12, I began a 20th Century type set that soon became an "In my dreams" U.S. Type set. Well, about 7 years ago, I completed the Dansco book (no gold) and decided to expand the set - a lot of varieties and no coin that cost more than $500 in F-12. Of course, I'll always have upgrading (and I'm already weakening on that $500 limit - those "Heraldic Eagle" dimes are so cool, but so hard to find!), but I'd decided to fill my "Reeded Edge - 'Half Dollar' reverse" variety with a '39-O and that became my last slot. Well, I found a nice, solid VF-20(5?) the other day and the holes are full. Wow!

So I'm crowing.

Y'all take care.

    Congrats!
  • I also want to extend my congratulations. Some of those type sets are tough to get every coin.

    NICE!
I am currently working on the dansco one for my son and with my son. We started it earlier this year and don't have a whole lot to go!

That is very cool and I would be telling everyone about that if I managed to accomplish it!image

Great accomplishment. I really like bust half dollars. Congrats.
  • Yeah, you can't beat the Bust halves. The '07-'08, larger portrait is a bugger to find with a good strike and I really had trouble finding a well-struck, properly graded, '39-O. It's goofy how thrilling such finds are and one's wife just doesn't quite get it...
  • Wow! That is great. I'm working on a type set too. It will be a long time before I can post a message like yours.

Congratulations! I, too, am working on my type set. I would very much like to find a Heraldic Eagle Dime too. Keep it up and soon you'll have a complete type set.

  • Crow away. You've earned the podium and the applause.
Buy the coin...but be sure to pay for it.
  • Thanks. Your sign off is certainly a lesson that I've learned the hard way. Its really true; for guys like me, I just need to be satisfied with getting exactly what I pay for - no great "steals" or bargains. Your "wanta-bees" can can sure tempt your eyes into some messes (and whizzes); especially when I was a kid.

Congratulations on seeing it through! You can toot your horn here anytime.
