"Cracked Skull" Lincolns!

I met up with a fellow collector several weeks ago, and he had a whole roll of them!
I've never seen anything like it! It really does look like someone whacked Abe! Incredible!

The man also had almost two whole rolls of of the 55DD!!!!!!!!!!!

I wonder if he'd adopt me?

  • Wow! Some people are just plain lucky. Those "cracked skull" Lincolns sound like a good case for "Unsolved Mysteries" to tackle. What was the date? image
  • There are many dates in the Lincoln series with significant die crackage through the head of Lincoln. I will have to dig out my notes.

  • Its a very common die crack and is seen in many years from 1934-58. I sigh in a bad way when I see one since its not something that adds to the value of a coin. In my experience it will actually downgrade a coin according to PCGS and ANACS. The downgrade is slight but you better have a real nice, close to an MS67 coin with a skull crack to make a borderline 66 from a 65 with the ailment.

Hi Madeddie! Wow forget those cracked heads those rolls of 1955/1955 sounds real interesting. Is this guy Bill Gates or somethng? Last time I saw that many double dies I realized I had a bad case of vertigo.
