70DCAMs that should be 69s. Please add a line for that possibility.

MS-63's that are graded AU-58! I find that to be the most common "miss" of PCGS. Seeing wear where there is none.

It's been stated PCGS has been much tougher, almost to the point of not awarding 70 any more.

Since PCGS is against awarding perfection wouldn't that indicate there are undergraded coins in 69?

  • One less than the grade that brings the biggest jump in price! Not that I know more about grading than PCGS, I'm not saying they are wrong or made a mistake. It is just that I'm hoping for the big jump in price and get disappointed when it doesn't happen.

I truly believe its CTA not that I know more about Grading than PCGS either. Sure seems that way though. image

I agree with Tom AU58 grades that should be MS63's.
Also whenever a large price is at a certain level, PGCS will go up the the grade below and not give the higher grade (keeps the pop report low)

Just got my grades back, not what I expected! They were REALLY haard on some of the coins.
Breakout time will send the same coin back in and get a higher grade may take a time or two but that is the way the game is played

    LS,

Take a minute to examine the pop reports for the proof Kennedy series. Pay particular attention to the 1971 proofs. Argueable, the most expensive coin in the series is the 1971 PR69 Dcam. Please look at the distribution of the grades in Cam/Dcam. There are 54 PR68 Cams/79 PR 69 Cams. Now look at the distribution for dcams. Try 109 PR68 Dcams/18 PR69 Dcams. Isn't it interesting that the dcam coins were of much worse quality? Amazingly, in any other year in the series, the ratio is roughly 60/40 68's to 69's in cam or dcam. If that number disturbs anyone, look at the 71 Wash proof and see the same phenomenon. Then try the 1934 Wash. All the P mint coins follow normal distribution. Amazingly the D mints don't. Maybe someday I'll chart it.image

Simply put, PCGS misses the boat by grading too many coins MS-68 that should be MS-67.

I see it all the time in the modern coins.

Your poll is flawed since it assumes that PCGS only undergrades.

I get distressed every time I see a PCGS MS-68 slabbed coin that only warrants a 67 grade. Another coin rejected! I cannot buy these sight unseen at all.

I believe it is different with each series.Sometimes with the year.
