Album preparation?

I couldn't find any information on this. When you first get a coin album (Dansco in this case), is there anything you should do to it before putting coins in. I'm not sure if I should clean the plastic slides, or something. I was even thinking of vacuming the bits of cardboard in the album. I don't want a piece of material to get stuck with coin.

Thanks, as always.

It shouldnt be necessary to clean the plastic slides unless they have a lot of cardboard dust on them, if you do clean them off, be careful not to scratch them up as they will scratch easily. It would also be a good idea to remove any bits of cardboard or cardboard dust from the coin openings. A good way is to blow it out with a can of compressed air IMO.

  • More important than what to do before you put your coins in is what you do after. Be very, very careful when inserting coins or moving the slides as this is the prime culprit in MS65 coins grading AU58. The slides too easily leave slide marks on the coins even with brief contact. These marks appear as parallel scratches on the high points of the design.
Buy the coin...but be sure to pay for it.
