ANACS is getting into special slabs, too?!

Perhaps this is old news, but this is the first time I've seen ANACS slabs for special occasions.

If folkartnut got signatures, he'd add $500 to the price of this set.

There is a guy in Ft Wayne who is selling plastic slabs for the state quarter like the one you see in this auction, with the outline of Indiana. He has designed and is having them manfactured. I''l see him on the 14th at a local show. I wonder if they will sell?
  • I've known about this one since shortly after the Indiana's came out. I've already tried to buy them a couple of times. on ebay. I classify it as a novelty slab and I havn't pursued the novelty slabs too aggressively. It would be nice to have them for the reference set but since the novelty slabs are usually promotional items that a large premium are being asked for, I have very few of them. And this is not the first special event ANACS created a slab for. It was for the special silver 40th anniversary of Amos press tokens that were issued last year. Regular aluminum tokens were produced as giveaways but 300 were produced in silver and slabbed by ANACS to be used for presentation purposes.

Irish Mike, I know the dealer you are talking about but I don't think the holders will be the same as the ones in the auction. It may be possible though since one person bought 180 of the 500 special holders. Of course that dealer with a partner bought the entire second Brinks truckload of quarters at the first day event in Indy so they may just be from that stock. I'll probably be at that same show on the 14th. I'll have to try and say hello.

My dealer has one of the 40th anniversary AMOS coin in the ANACS holder. If you had to get one of everything the put in holders....ugh. All of them seem to have state quarter sample slabs too.

Isn't it just essentially a "pedigreed" regular slab? At least it looks the same to me.

  • Not really, the labels are considerably different from those seen on a regular slab. No serial number other than XXXout of 500, no bar code, no hologram on the back, Indy 500 speedway logo on the back label. I'd say it qualifies as a different variety, but a novelty variety.

Dbldie55, Is your dearer looking to sell the 40th ann slab? If so how much? Would it be possible to get scans or it? Actually ANACS has been very laid back with the sample slabs. I only list one variety from them which they issued on two different occaisions. And I haven't seen state quarter sample slabs from them. Most of the sample slab varieties come from PCGS, NGC, and ICG in that order

Just won an Ohio 25c that was in a special commemorative slab for the Ohio State Coin Show in Columbus last Friday.
  • Frow ANACS or someone else? If it's some else I'm betting ICG. They do a lot of those. I don't list them seperately. Either way I'd like to see a scan.

    From ANACS-here's what it says-
    OHIO 50 STATE QUARTER
    OHIO STATE COIN SHOW
    AUG 30-31, SEP 1 2002
    CNS/COINS & ANACS
I'll try to get a scan of it.

Well, I tried to upload the file, but it's too large. Give me your physical address-ill send you a hard copy if you want.

  • E-mail me the scan, there won't be a size limitation that way. My e-mail address is in my profile.
