Roll storage question-- Indy SQ report

I just got a roll of BU Indiana SQs, and i was wondering: are the plastic rollers they come in safe? I'm pretty sure it contains PVC, so i need to take them out. the paper rolls might contain sulfer, but i think that will help the toning. i know the best thing is going to be the inert quarter holders from Whitman or the like, but i don't live near enough to a dealer where i can run out and get them. (Plus, they cost money, which i'd rather spend on my coins!!!) Waht would the more experianced folks think???

  • All the BU rolls I have are either in original paper wrapping, or tubes. I agree on the plastic possible containing PVC, so I would remove them, but I don't worry about the paper rolls. Of course, if the paper does contain sulfer, that may lead to some pretty toning, that I would consider natural, but others may call AT. I would think either way, the paper would be fine until you could get some innert tubes.

    PS-Are they P or D? Well I guess it doesn't matter, I need both!
  • Its more work but if you wrap the coins in foil and put them back into the paper rolls they will come out 30 years from now looking like the day you put them in the foil.

  • they are P, but i'd like to try and get the D's. The store owner i get them from isn't real good about getting both mint marks, but i won't argue about getting a BU roll at face. I looked them all over, and it appears that "e pluris umun" will be a telling part of grading these coins, because it appears kinda fuzzy on a couple of the coins. The quality seems pretty good, not that many contact marks, and they are all struck solidly. No mushy lines, and they are so bright!!! I almost hate to put them away for the next 20+ years.
