Getting a price

I find it funny that some people just won't name a price for the coins they have for sale. By my thinking, the one with the coin for sale should have an asking price. However, I've noticed some people just won't set a price and ask for offers. I guess their thinking is that they don't want to set too low a price for the coin, car, house, or other item they have for sale. I ask them to call me when they make up their minds, but I wonder if they'll sell to someone on the spur of the moment.
How do you deal with this? If it's a common coin it's easy-- just point them to a price guide and see what they say. If it's a particularly scarce or thinly traded item, it gets trickier. You can't point to a suggested price when one doesn't exist and when there aren't any hammer prices to point to.

What I'd usually do is tell them to check around and call when they are ready to sell. One lady called me on the same add almost a year later(she had forgotten me), she was still looking to sell for the right offer.
