My First PCGS submission results

I got the results of my 1st submissions today. I sent four coins in and had the following results:

1955 double die cent: I bought it as XF45 and it was graded AU50

1833 Large Cent: I bought as AU58 and it graded Au53

1829 1/2 cent: I boght as Au58 and it was called cleaned and not graded. Thinking back I should have not bought this one, as the color looked strange to me.

1853 Large Cent. I bought at AU money, but it looked MS-63-64 to me, but was also not graded as was cleaned.

I am overall happy and learning along the way. The double die coming back at 50 helps things along and evens out the money I will lose selling my mistakes.

Great picks, the 55 DD helps.image
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

  • Congrats on the 1955 DD coming back as AU50.

The copper problem doesn't surprise me. I bought several copper large cents, sent one in for grading and it came back body bagged as environmental damage (well, what do you expect for a coin over 200 years old? image ). But anyway, that was the last time I sent copper to PCGS because they don't net grade. All my large cents are currently at ANACS being graded, simply because they will net grade a coin. If PCGS would do that, I would send there instead. image

congratulations on the 55image. Those earl copper coins can be tough to get slabbed as many have been cleaned and retoned. Just got my B&M rarities catalog and here are some things they describe about these PCGS and NGC graded large cents- lightly cleaned long ago, tiny flecks of corrosion, vestiges of light cleaning long ago. Cleaning and corrosion is acceptable in PCGS and NGC slabbed large cents to a certain point. I just had a 1802 slabbed by PCGS that was net graded although it does not say so on the holder. I have an 1854 thas has been retoned in a 63 holder. mike
