  • advice? All I see is stop collecting cards, cards don't give me a special feeling anymore, sell while you can, collecting is boring now!!

<< <i>Is there a way to use your own icon and not one from the list? >>

Not anymore. Carol has banned everyone from being able to upload their own icon because people were putting icons of half-naked women or using dirty pictures for their icons. I can understand that, but I don't think it's right for us to be able to not upload icons just because a few people were using dirty pics for their icons. Hell, all she has to do is delete the pics and give them a warning and if they continue to upload dirty pics, then give them the boot. Simple as that.

Another thing...Carol pm's me and tells me that my Andruw Jones picture in my sig is way too big and I have to delete it or just make it a lot smaller...so I said to hell with it...I'll just delete the entire thing. I don't even feel like arguing about it. Yet, you have people with 4 huge a$$ pics in their sigs (like Kbryant used to have with the 'incoming Kobe's) and she doesn't say jack sh*t to them about it. I've seen pics in sigs that were the size of King Kong's balls...but she doesn't say anything to them. It's very lame in my opinion...she's never liked me anyway...for some odd reason...but whatever.
  • bob this has nothing to do with basketball or baseball. If you love cards you love cards. If you want to always bash basketball like you do.....then do it. You have no impact in my life and I would never stop collecting basketball, because of 1 person like you on a board. Your opinions are worthless when somebody actually loves something. If you think hockey is where it's at then so be it. Basketball isn't all game used. Basketball players are not all thugs. That's like saying all hockey players go to bars after games and get into fights. That's like saying all baseball players are on steroids. That's like saying football players are all killers like oj and that ray guy. Do you see me wasting my time bashing baseball or hockey bob? If it gives you that much satisfaction in life to come on a board and bash basketball then go right ahead and keep doing it.

  • i hate to agree with bob but i do- i kno esp. in my region of the country- basketball cards have hit rock bottom. stores dont even want to carry it anymore- i used to collect basketball, but i and alot of others beleive the sport is different (not a good different) than it was yrs ago. basketball collectors may start to fizzle out.

  • and baseball collectors haven't? Please take your bball stories elsewhere. Where do you and bob live anyways? Kentucky? Basketball is starting to shine, because we actually have more than 1 player to collect these days other than jordan throughout the 90's. You want to name me a modern superstar who actually sells more than jordan or kobe? Can you actually answer that question truthfully without lying to yourself?

    Basketball is here to stay.

  • ok i know i will probally here a bunch of slack from this since i am new but bobstar, as a 3 sport collector i have to disagree with you basketball is no worse than the others. you telling me just because of a couple hard heads that the whole NBA is the same.. ok so whats the diff. between them and you guys using sterioids or getting busted with drugs they are all hyped up superstars that get in to trouble but that don't make the whole league bad. hell whens the last time you heard the NBA yell STRIKE IF WE DON"T GET OUR WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

as for cards themself as a baseball collector you can't even say anything about basketballs wristbands and warm-ups hell baseball has bases, walls and DIRT in the gu line-up.....don't forget the turf cards in football now come on......

please don't let the actions of some guys destroy the whole image of the NBA

  • NBA is the least skilled sport there is. All you have to do is be tall. How many Hall of Famers in the NBA are under 6'1? In baseball you can be any height and be an all-star. Baseball is harder than basketball, period. Basketball is so boring and all you ever here about basketball is dunking. WOW he dunked the ball. All he or should I say she LMAO is jump like a foot and drop the ball in the hoop. Now that is skill, NOT! Baseball is better, period.
  • On the issue of collectors who are bored with the hobby,I was just repeating THEIR words & thoughts, not mine. They happen to relate
to how I feel about the NBA is all.You all need to re-read those posts about those guys who are whining.I was just making an observation that MOST of them are basketball collectors.

As far as the GU of other sports, most all sports have flooded the market. We don't even collect most GU anymore, except of the players we like & the BAP Hockey which are REAL nice because they limit the run to 90 or less.If you look at price guides & auction sites tho, alot of the pricing of basketball is in the toilet with few exceptions.

Far be it from me or anyone else to change anyones mind as what to collect.Collect what you like.We have an absolute blast collecting what we like even tho some of you on here are relentless in your bashing of hockey. We were overjoyed when we pulled the multi colored jersey/stick card of Glenn Hall(Goalie who invented the butterfly defense move)knowing there were only 89 more of them out there. Now THAT'S a collectible!
We still agree with psavintage tho;go somewhere else & do your whining!

Height has nothing to do with it. If that was true, Manute Bol (7' 7"), Gheorghe Muresan (7' 6"), Shawn Bradley (7' 6") would be Hall of Famers. Dunno if you knwo this or not, but the taller you are, the more uncoordinated you are (with a few exceptions). That's why you rarely see any 7 footer being a consistant 3-point shooter. With their long arms and size, they should have a longer range than a shorter player. So, height has nothing to do with it. And the reason dunking is all you hear about is because that's all that is publicized. I agree that basketball isn't what it use to be from the lack of talent, but in the days of Jordan (schooling people), Magic (no look passes), Kareem (Skyhook), and little Spud Webb winning the Slam dunk contest, those were the glory days of basketball. And since basketball takes no skill, I'd be willing to put money that you couldn't hit 8 3-pointers in a row. The basket isn't that big. I like baseball, but baseball isn't all that. How can you have a player batting .200 or less still be in the majors. The games last too long. You want to talk about boring.. *cough*Hockey*cough*. Back and forth, back and forth with no points being scored. But as each sport, you have to be a fan to like it.

  • << <i>I'd like to see Shaq try to hit one of Randy Johnson's pitches. >>

I'd like to see Randy Johnson dunk with authority. That would be interesting.
  • No one will ever convince me that basketball isn't still kicking the crap out of Hockey in the hobby, and before long baseball too...baseball has lost today's generation, interest is way down and shows no signs of recovering.

Of course, give me football over all that crap.

I would like to see Randy Johnson at 6'8" is it.. try to post up on shaq.. or Karl Malone..a whole inch taller than him.. Basketball does take skill and hand eye coordination.. as does baseball.. but a NBA'er does more running in one game.. than a baseball player in a week of games... heck..the 1B rarely moves at all.
  • I do believe michael jordan hit a home run in baseball. It might of been the minor leagues, but who cares. He hit a fast ball out of the park!! Can you say randy johnson soared through the air and DUNKED from the free throw line and hit a home run? NUFF SAID

  • << <i>Can you say randy johnson soared through the air from the free throw line and hit a home run? NUFF SAID >>

I can't even say that I know how to soar from the free throw line and hit a home run.

Man all of the good players are tall. I didn't say that they had to be 7 foot. All you have to do is be tall like from 6'4 + and be an all-star. Basketball is everything related to height. How many short basketball hall of famers do you know of? Or anyone know of?

Ok now running is a skill, didn't think so! Shaq and Karl Malone are both fat though especially Shaq. He is like a mack truck! He just plows through people and jumps and places a ball in a hoop. That is not a skill! Baseball requires more skill! Try hitting a 98 mph fastball and then try to hit a curveball the next pitch. If you can do that you have more skill than any NBA player. Try catching a a 100mph + ball in a mit! Try that I dare you all! Baseball is the most skilled required sport there is, period.
  • I do believe michael jordan hit a home run in baseball.

He absolutely sucked at baseball. Even if he hit a minor league fastball out of the park that is not that big of a deal. You can't compare minor league fastballs to Major League fastballs! you just can't. I will tell everyone one last time, Baseball requires more skill than Basketball and any other sport.

Randy Johnson, I believe, is 6'11" so he might have a "slight" chance...image

Actually, I'm going to have to agree with islandboys (for the first time ever) that baseball is probably the sport that requires the most skill of any sport. Hitting a baseball is a lot harder than shooting a basketball or laying it up in the bucket for 2 points. Not only do you have to have great hand/eye coordination, but you have to be looking for a certain pitch to hit...baseball is the toughest in my opinion.
  • Island Boy- You say basketball is the least skilled sport there is??

Have you ever played the game of basketball, baseball or football? I doubt it because you dont have a clue.

I never played professionally but i played major college baseball and basketball and can tell you basketball players are better athletes by far. True the 7 footers may not be , but i know some 6'8 guys that are terrific athletes that could compete in a triathlon

As far as basketball cards being dead-not in San francisco area. The hobby stores near me regularlly sell out and say its a strong sport for them

I collect basketball ONLY and i am not bored with it at all-but i collect sets with ALL the short printed rookies. This keeps me busy year round just chasing one card (even if its a common rookie ).I know, i know people will say they dont have money to do that..well you could have made several sets cheaply this year for under $200.00
    Xpectations
    Force
    Chrome
    Heritage

Plus you get the satisfaction of completing something. Besides, how many complete sets are out there when you count say 1000 of a rookie run less unopened boxes, some stashed by player collectors, some stashed over seas, some trashed and thrown away. For the expensive set like Ultimate i would guess that no more than 20 complete sets were made. Force perhaps 30.

It is doable and the longer you wait to do it the cheaper the rookies get, but the harder it is to locate the minor rookies and surprisingly they get more expensive while the star rookies decrease in price

  • wow baseball is probably the most boring sport besides GOLF! ESPN did a poll on what was the most exciting play in sports.

    a. homerun to win the game
    b.hole in one
    c. touchdown to win the game
    d. last second buzzer beater in basketball

    basketball won hands down.

I would love to see baseball players come do some windmill jams or actually run up and down the court for 48 mins.

Basketball is way more athletic PERIOD.

  • heres another thing about baseball players compared to basketball players. You only talk about hitting a pitch? Why about the pitchers actually hitting more than 3 homeruns per year? Or what about homerun hitters actually throwing a no hitter? You guys got players that are not multi talented like basketball players.

Sure a-rod can hit a homerun and catch some fly balls, but WHO CARES.

Basketball superstars can do a bit of everything and spend alot more energy. When do you actually see a baseball player sweat?

  • FOOTBALL is the hardest imageimage
'especially when you play with a broken arm like (i think) Jack Lambert did image

    well its easy for me.

  • mcdee2mcdee2 Posts: 1,150
if running fast is not a skill.. why do olympians have trainers and coaches that teach you to run faster????

another point.. the batting crown should be won by somebody in the .340-350 range this year.. which is about the same percentage as a very skilled 3 pt shooter.. why is hitting a baseball sucessfull 34-35 percent of the time a skill... but sucessfully making a 3 pointer with a guy inches from your face 34-35 percent of the time not a skill???

and lastly... Mo Vaughn... I dont think I need to type any more about this one.

6' + is common. And 6' 4" in the NBA is considered short. It's about dribbling skills, the ability to see the entire court, and accuracy. Spud Webb was 5' 7"

    image

You better recognize the dunking skills!
  • spud webb could also 360 dunk. Amazing for how short he was.
