Home Buy, Sell & Trade - Cards & Memorabilia

The game is over! Your cards are worthless...

Expect that sort of thing soon.

With all the theives justifying searching packs and dealers selling searched product the game is over. Only the die hard are left. Bogus pricing by Beckett and disapearing dealers means one thing. IT IS OVER. Just a shadow remains of the former "hobby". Bad Traders ripping people off, losers bashing other collectors and cussing each other out, the hobby is eating itself. THE APPEAL IS GONE! Sell your cards now while you can and get out. Finding buyers for your "HOT" cards is going to be harder and harder to do. You have been warned...

LOL... Who knows? I guess if you're in it for the money, you might want to bail. If you just have fun doing it, then there's always some appeal. As far as pack searching, some companies have tried to correct that sort of thing with cardboard inserts. They'll all be doing it soon I assume. Also, being ripped off happens. You can cut down on those things by doing some research. I have yet to be ripped off and I've done over 300 online trades. I've had some delays, but things always have worked out. And as far as Beckett pricing, that's just a tool. It's hardly written in stone. Other guides have different information on pricing. Bogus? Only if you don't agree with it I guess...

  • That is exactly the point. The collectors are gone for the most part. It is just a matter of time now...image

If that were true, would companies be making as many products as they are? Not hardly. There's still tons of "collectors". I know of quite a few people on this board alone (including myself) that collect cards just for fun. I know a ton from other sites as well. It may seem that way to you, but I've seen things differently...

  • Who can quit collecting so easily if you really like it? Too dang much fun to quit. And remember, only sell your dupes.

sportscards collecting/trading/selling/ect will never die....as long as there are games, new players there will be sports cards, you will die before the hobby does..always remember thatimage
  • Wow,talk about doom & gloom;you need to get some help buddy!
There will always be collectors out there. They might not want what you have but all that means is you need to take a look at what & who you collect.
We get inquiries all the time from other collectors wanting to trade with us & we don't even collect basketball.Just have FUN with this hobby & quit getting so serious about it.The minute you start trying to make a killing in this hobby is the minute you ruin it for yourself;hence your attitude.
MAY THE NEXT PACK YOU RIP HAVE THE CARD OF YOUR DREAMS!

  • I agree...........

Collecting is awesome........just don't take it so serious. Plus, people do search packs, nothing we can do about that. But that's why they sell sealed boxes.....image
  • lol..where the hell did this come from? image sounds like one of those bashers who tell you to short your stocks but buys em as u dump em..i dont think ne1 here traded with him..oh well, watch..we will still see him here next month image
  • I should hope so remster with news like that. Anyways the founder is a liar and briber, so he can thank himself for ruining the hobby. Congrats for helping ruin the hobby Akafocus. Oh I know how you "CLAIM' you were here to make the hobby better, but you contradict yourself over and over and over again. I guess you making SCS was the final straw in ruining the business and that was your entire goal. Oh how selfish you must be, breaking the hearts of all your 12 year old Cadets after they worked so hard becoming brainwashed by the sermons of the one known as Focus and doing all your little dirty work. I still haven't seen you post anything worth while anywhere, just garbage and more garbage. Finally this board and every other board that was rudely spammed will be once again be at peace without the fecal smell of the dung spread by SCS and it's dirty workers.
  • Actually, i like SCS better than CU. But I don't agree with the gloom & Doom nonsense. I'm a dealer as well as a collector. I know that some dealers search pack and such (which blows), but when I buy boxes to sell as packs, I don't open any until I've had it awhile, then I just open the rest of whatever is left. I also look for stuff in trade of players and stuff that you people collect... btw Bobstar, I have an Irbe & an O'Neill auto I picked up at the last show. For dealers the hobby is getting worse, we make half as much at shows as we used to, mostly because of eBay and sites like this one & SCS. Collectors can now get the cards they want at cheaper prices from anywhere in the world. When I started as a dealer, that wasn't the case.

  • The "hobby" will always survive. A TON of set builders and player collectors left the "hobby" in the mid-90's because of the mass number of different sets, but it still survived. I'm getting out, but still may get some vintage from time to time. People will always love vintage because vintage is history. Investors may quit, but the hobbyist that are collecting now will be here.
  • Totally agree autobilia, there will be collectors, but investors may start to fade away, auctions are becoming the only place to sell and make money, but most people don't want to pay 1/2 book anymore unless it is rare.

Also, I agree with belfan saying SCS has hurt Dealers.

    WAY TO GO FOCUS!!!!!

Hehe.. there you go again 1/2 "book", and we know which book you are talking about. I never pay attention to "book" when it comes to something I want. I sometimes pay book and from time to time over "book". Just depends on how much I want it. I pay what it is worth to me which gives me an edge when buying. If people think the "book" is set in stone, I know I will get the cards I want simply because they set a limit based on what he "book" says, not a limit to what the card is worth to them.
  • Agree again, nothing is set in stone, just look at 2001 contenders. The demand for a card is more important than writing on paper, but the Big Joker takes all when played correctly.

  • AKAFOCUS....................the sky is falling...the sky is falling

i was told they kicked his a$$ out of the memorbillia section i guess this is a good example why..His overwhelming positive attitude

  • Heh, I'm getting out because it bores me now. I remember when I started back in 1985 (early). I bought an assorted pack from Revco (now CVS) and got a bunch of players I've never heard of. In that pack was Jim Presley 1984 Topps and a bunch of other cards from different years. Days of Lou Whitaker (Detroit Tigers) and when Rickey Henderson was BLAZIN'! The most popular card then was Pete Rose RC. That was eveyone's dream card. Things have changed since then. No fun anymore. I will always love vintage though and still want to get a Hank Aaron and Roberto Clemente RCs.

Thanks, we try. I am just having fun with the dirge...image

The hobby will never die. Yet, to miss the fact that the hobby is in bad shape is to be blind. I am extremely pleased to be mentioned in the company of eBay. We are a long way off from eBay like numbers , but we are growing very fast. In our first calender month of operation we had 1,300,000 hits, over 11,000 unique visitors and 8.5 Gigs of transfer. And I am actually working WITH dealers on SCS and its future business plan. In my book, when you have healthy dealers you have a healthy hobby. eBay is incapable of supporting the hobby and without the dealers the hobby is a mere shadow of what it can be.

  • wow I guess mommy forgot to give you some money for new cards focus? Don't be so bitter..........If you rather collect bubblegum wrappers and ketchup packages from jack in the box........go right ahead and bounce!

Do it because you actually have fun doing it. Don't do it if you plan to be rich, because greedy collectors ALWAYS die off.

  • Every once in a while some idiot comes crying about how the market is dying and everyone should get out immediately. Of course, this is the first time an owner of a card site has done it, which tells us one of three things:

    1. Akafocus is completely ignorant to market trends, or
    2. Akafocus is a liar, or,
    3. Akafocus is an idiot.

  • Um you forgot #4 Ryan.

    All of the Above
  • My fault, hitech. Well said.
