James I with ya man. It's just getting boring. You know what I mean? I pulled a George Brett jersey this weekend, within 5 seconds of pulling it, I was wondering who to trade it to. I think I just need to forgettabout tradin for a while. Man, I've traded with ya 7-8 times. Hell we even traded again today. I still like trading, but its not exciting like it used to be. I'll prolly trade here and there until I graduate in May, then I'm moving out and I'm gonna just quit trading/buying stuff. Prolly sell some stuff, but not get anything new for a while. It's just boring. Oh yeah, Fightin Irish rock!!!!!!!!!!! imageimage

Yeah, I agree it definitely has gotten boring...espicially if you've been here as long as I have. When I first came to CU, I was a trading machine...then it just got tiring. I mainly just like discussing sports on here and having little arguments about certain topics since I do like discussing sports. I make a trade every now and then, but it seems like there's too many picky fu^kers nowadays...but oh well. I'll still be here to make a trade every now and then...and continue to raise hell with my OH SO AMAZING HUMOR *cough cough* and discuss sports issues. image

Yeah, we've had a good time and I would hate for you to have to go, but got to do whatcha got to do...family comes first and that's cool...I'd be the same way. If your collection belongs under glass then I can see why you would have a problem with "what
does a card book", but for the rest of us we have thousands of cards, there just isn't time
to scope ebay for the last 40 sales! Beckett gives up a decent pricing tool. Is it perfect? no, but
    it is easy to use.

You are smart, you know that there are loop holes, but for the most part beckett is right.

Beckett does have its purpose and I like Beckett (mainly for the article image ), but there is a lot that Beckett doesn't know about (which is why I created the Area 51 section). There are a bunch of cards and sets out there that Beckett knows nothing about. As I find cards on the market, I usually report them to Beckett and they list them in the price guide / OPG. I know Beckett isn't perfect, but at the same time, their prices isn't set in stone. It's a "guide". The main thing that disappoints me about Beckett is their multipliers just to save room for advertisers. Beckett killed the value and popularity of base inserts with multipliers. For example, say if Barry Bonds and Sammy Sosa go on a HR hitting spree, then Beckett drops a multiplier. How can they justify Bonds and Sosa cards going down? A multiplier is like pricing a set, not individual cards. I can see a set price going down, but not ALL of the individual cards, but when using multipliers, everything goes down no matter who's hot.

bilia> I would like to see this area51, can I get a link!

Heck you think beckett is clueless on certain cards, how about the card companies! Sometimes they
don't even know what they put out! After all they all do use outside printers. Chances are they
    never see the cards!

Wasn't there a time when beckett didn't have any advertisments? I think it is sad that there are more
and more junk every issue! I think the most important part of beckett is the info in regards to odds
and print numbers. I agree the parallel pricing are screwed. I wish they would of kept the EXCH
marking on all the cards that were exchange, that way you know when you are opening a old
    product.

Well let me know where I can see this area 51 thanks

I still collect Tim Duncan! Love all high end auto's, and game used basketball of Tony Parker, and Ginobili too! image This means more to me than any card...You can catch me on my site: Highlight Reel Trading

Here is the link to Area 51

About to add another card to the section (02 Fleer Dave Righetti Classic Cuts Patch) which is not even listed in Beckett. It's been confirmed by Fleer that it suppose to have been removed from the set. I had to send info to Beckett about the 3 01 Fleer Genuine Final Cut cards that got out. These cards are easier than you think to find, but most people are so caught up in "What's Hot!" that they over look these cards.
  • Autobillia-

I agree with you that Beckett doesnt have a clue with regards to hoops pricing which is what i know a good deal about and collect. I spent three months looking everywhere for a joe johnson hoops hot prospect rc on every auction site. They list it at $50.00. I could never find it. It should book at $250.00 its so hard to find.
Also they lag a few months behind the action if a player gets hot.
One thing i have wondered about too.

    1. Beckett says the price their guide based on what the hobby shops sell at.

    2. Every hooby shop i go into says i have to wait and see what beckett prices this at.

    Somebodies lying here.

The real price is found on eaby where real dollars are spent every day.

Joe Stalin is correct that Beckett can be used as an all round reference point and that is all-plain and simple. If you dont like their prices do what i do; Just say to the trader, i think they missed that one i value that card much higher-i think its worth this-take it or leave it ( not is such nasty terms though )

Personally i dont price my cards. I have just too many and the prices ae always changing. If somebody likes my cards i trust them to tell me a fair price.

Hehe, so when I decide to sell, they are forced to make an offer to what it is worth to them instead of trying to pay a % of book. image

    Kevin-
My Dad used to repair/rebuild printing presses, he recently had to close his business do to his health. But anyway, he went to Raleigh-Durham in 00 and 01 to work on Fleer's/Pokemon's presses. He was down there about a month each time. There were survaliance cameras nearly over the entire ceiling of the buildings. Fleer had 18-wheelers hauling stacks of uncut cards to South Dakota everyday, My dad said there were prolly 50-80 runs per day. The presses go 24 hours a day, 6 days a week.

My Dad also says that the Presses were the cleanest and nicest he's ever seen. The floors were washed and polished daily, the place was in great shape. He's talked to me about how much just 1 press will make per day and it's staggering. The way the companies get SP gu'ed cards is very simple, they just run out of certain jerseys/bats and before they can purchase more, the cards must get shipped out.

Remember a couple of years back when a few people begain pulling Pokemon cards out of Fleer packs? Fleer tried(and usually succedded) in buying back those Pokemon cards for 200-400 for each card. Thats also why you see sheets of cards sell so much, b/c the card companies try there damdest(sp) to buy them back.
