Ye ol' US Coin Forum do's and dont's....

Its okay to...

post a link to an EBAY auction you are making fun of
post a link to an EBAY auction that is too expensive
post a link to an EBAY auction from a seller you think is a total rip off
post a link to an EBAY auction that you are totally amazed to see - like an awesome coin you'd never thought would be for sale on EBAY

But dont you DARE

post a link to an EBAY auction that people might actually want to purchase....

Is it just me, or does anyone else find thids a bit confusing? I realize there are different forums on this message board.. I have used them, but you have to admit... what i state in my message is true.

I think the line is crossed when it's your own auction, but otherwise I like it when eBay auctions are pointed out to me that are interesting. I may have missed them otherwise and as long as the Thread poster doesn't mind the competition in bidding, why not?

  • I aggree with barddick. When its your own auctions they belong on the Buy, Sell, Trade forums, but I enjoy the interesting ebay auctions that people point out on this forum.

Yes I agree that's what the buy sell and trade forumn is for. If everybody posted the coins they had for-sale here it would get all cluttered up and nobody would get a response to the threads they started because they would quickley be moved off the front page and soon people would loose interest in this forumn. at least that's my view of what would happen. mike
  • But see, you guys are missing my point.. the poor guy made a mistake., why all the attitudes?

Someone can tell him nicely not to make posts like that, and move on.... The only problem being is that no matter how long anyone
has been a member of this or any message board, this message board is public..

The ONLY moderators are employees of Collectors Universe. and since the guy didnt use bad language, or make sexual comments,
i dont think he offended anyone. And if you are offended by him posting a message about his coin being for sale in the wrong message
forum, then i think you need professional help.

I have no clue who the guy is but, this didnt have to be the big problem that it turned out to be, because he is new.
Everyone was new here at some point. .. my opinion anyhow...

  • I suppose the only exception is to post a link to your own auctions in you signature line right? image Personally, I am not as upset about auction posts unless they get out of hand, like someone posting 27 threads on each of their auctions. If it's a one off thing, I can be very forgiving, but do it a lot and it belongs on the other board (after all, that would benefit you and potential buyers as that's where we go when we are looking to buy or sell something). The only "Don't" that I feel very strongly about is Don't ever try to stifle open and honest exchange of ideas by trying to censor or suspend the First Amendment on the boards. That's the only thing I see on here that really chaps my hide!

It's not a bit confusing if you know the difference between advertising vs discussion.

Amen Dog, this is not to say that sometimes not every one agrees with the posts, but this is not an adverstising forum here, is that too difficult to understand. That is why there is a forum specifically set up to do that. As far as not being nice to this guy, he brought it all upon himself. There is no excuse for his behavior, people who make excuses for other peoples bad behavior are only one step away from excusing their own. I'm a surprised this even has to be discussed here.

I didn't say a word to him, or about him, until he cluttered up the board with about 15 troll posts in a row. Had he simply taken the initial advice that was offered, used that advice, then there would have been little problem with anyone.

Instead, he chose to react like a two year old and start posting thread after thread. He dug the hole himself.

One last comment Michelle, I for one am tired of the excuse people who join here, act like children and then blame it on being a newbie or cliques. Take responsibility for your own actions, quit blaming others for your own shortcomings, this isn't meant to any one in particular. In other words wise up. If you can't see that this loser is doing this because this is the only way he can get attention, then I don't know how you will ever understand.

    Michelle,

Mike should have noticed (with 50+ posts) that there were no coins listed for sale in the US Coin Forum. There are two discreet sections in most newspapers that handle articles and classifieds. I tried to bring this to his attention in a non-threatening way, and it was poorly received. With 7000+ members that buy and sell coins, I really don't think being courteous to other members by not spamming their messages off of the page is much of an imposition. You're right of course that sometimes auctions get air time anyway, but PCGS itself polices blatant misuse.

This is how I told him. I just didn't think I was harsh.

Its4real, I see that you're pretty new to the boards, but some time ago (6 mos), we came to an uneasy gentlemans agreement that no one should hawk their coins for sale on this forum, but would rather post the item to the Buy,Sell,Trade forum. It was also agreed by many that the coins would be offered before they were put on ebay at a fixed price. It has created a lot less clutter here, and has worked pretty well for the seller. Finally, IMHO, it is OK to end and auction early if there are no bids, but once the coin is in play, ending early (while legal on ebay) is poor form. It is a nice coin, and I wish you luck.

As for his use of language, see the final post in the thread below, and see if he's out of line

I loved his use of ttt titty top

I don't care what he thinks, but I do respect your opinion, and felt I should take a moment to explain my concern.

Irish Mike - Cmone big guy, be nice to the kind lady. Lets all mellow out before work begins on Tuesday. Life is too short to waste any more time on this matter. We still have to decide whether or not we are going to let the Marines win the war in Iraq all by themselves, or are we going to let the New York Police Department get a piece of the action?

What's really amazing is this guy has made about a dozen troll threads in the last day and the members keep replying to them so they keep "its4real" coming back for more then whine & cry about "its4real" being offensive. ROFLMAO!!!

This isn't meant to any one in particular either, but a lot of the members have toilet paper on their head.
