why caron butler will be a runner up for ROY award. :)

June 26th, 2002 was one of the happiest days in recent history for the Heat fans. After seasons of enduring losses to the Knicks, getting swept by the Hornets and a losing season, there was a ray of hope between the clouds of endless despair.
With the 10th pick of the 2002 NBA draft, the Miami Heat selected Caron Butler, the 6-7 forward out of the University of Connecticut. Nobody had expected Butler to drop till the 10th spot. He was expected to be gone by the 5-7th pick. He had a Paul Pierce like drop in his stock. In fact Butler was so confident he would be picked high that he restricted his workouts to only the teams picking up to #8. Miami was one of the teams he did not workout for.
But due to some false rumors about a bad knee, his stock plummeted and he fell directly into Miami’s lap. Butler, whom David Aldridge had said was his “No.1” pick, fell to No.10. And no one was happier than the Heat Head Coach Pat Riley. In fact Riley is a person who does not show his emotions very often. But this was an occasion where Riley was beaming with joy. Riley said, “We are absolutely, without a doubt, unadulteratedly excited. We never, ever thought he would be there”
Butler was just what the doctor had ordered for Miami. An athletic Small Forward who could score. His college statistics show how versatile his overall game is.

Butler is an excellent mid-range shooter. He will have a high field goal percentage because he is a great slasher and loves to go hard to the basket. He runs the floor very well and is capable of spectacular finishes. We can expect to see some Sportscenter Highlight reels from Butler. He brings the much-needed athleticism to the Heat. He has range up to the 3pt line but is not very consistent with the shot. Though he shot .400 3pt% in college he still has to work on his 3-point shot.
The other great aspects of his game are his rebounding and defense. Butler is a very solid defender who will make a name for himself in the NBA for his defense. He is a great rebounder especially on the offensive glass. He was averaging 3.1 offensive rebounds per game in college last season. People compare him to Paul Pierce, but I feel he is more like Shawn Marion with better defense.
The weakness in his game is his ball handling and his passing. He certainly cannot play the point forward position, as he does not have the skill to bring the ball up court against pressure defense. But he does have enough ball handling skills to break down the defense on the offensive end. His passing abilities will improve with experience. Though he is on the shorter side of 6-7, his toughness and strength on defense will compensate for his lack of height to play the SF position. The character issues that he faced during his teens are a thing of the past, which will make no difference to his career in the NBA.
Though he is physically strong, it the mental strength which makes him a great player. He is highly competitive, loves challenges and has a never say die attitude even in the most difficult of circumstances. He is aggressive and has the mentality of a leader.
Now, a lot of people believe that Riley does not play rookies and that he likes veterans. This statement is not incorrect but is rather inaccurate. Basically we have to know Riley’s mentality to know what kind of player he likes to play. Riley likes players who play tough defense and play within the structured framework of his offense. His playbook is also the size of a telephone directory that makes it difficult for his players to grasp his plays quickly. This is why usually rookies are not quickly initiated in Pat Riley’s team. But Butler has clearly an advantage over other rookies. He is the most NBA ready of all the players of his draft class. Riley will love him because of his dedication to defense and his work ethic at both ends of the floor. Butler also brings his offensive skills to a team that was the worst offensive team in the league last season. Riley will play Butler because he adds offensive firepower, youth, athleticism, defense and leadership to this team.
I feel that in the beginning Butler will get close to 20mpg and his minutes will steadily increase depending on his performance. I feel Riley wont start him, preferring to start the more experienced LaPhonso Ellis. But Butler will get more minutes through the course of the season and may eventually grab the starting position. Butler will also be a strong contender for the Rookie of the Year as he has the game and the opportunity to showcase his skills.
The hopes and aspirations of the Miami Heat fans ride on the capable young shoulder of Caron Butler. He is clearly a star on the rise.

"He is the most NBA ready of all the players of his draft class"-
Yeah, thats why he dropped to the #10 spot. I think you might just be a little biased b/c he plays for the heat. Many many analysts have said the most "NBA ready" is Jay Williams.
"Riley will play Butler because he adds offensive firepower, youth, athleticism, defense and leadership to this team."
Leadership? This kid is coming right out of college, he's got no leadership on a team of NBA vets.
"June 26th, 2002 was one of the happiest days in recent history for the Heat fans. After seasons of enduring losses to the Knicks, getting swept by the Hornets and a losing season, there was a ray of hope between the clouds of endless despair. "
Hows getting a rookie forward gonna change a franchise? No one player can carry a team(not even a Jordan or Magic can) especially a rookie.
Hate to tell ya, all your writings adds up to alot of hype. He's a #10 pick because the other owners don't think he's worth it, they owners know ahelluvalot more about basketball then you, me, and pretty much anyone else.
I think the 2 guys with the best shot at ROY are....
1.)Jay Williams
2.) Yao Ming(yes he's overrated, but if Francis give him the ball enough there's no reason why he can't score but he's gotta put on atleast 60+ lbs of muscle to play with some of the bigger power forwards and centers in the league. He'll get pushed around on defense but he's got nice hands and he's a scorer.)
he's gonna get the playing time. that's for sure. why did riles draft him? because riley wanted a scoring sf to compliment eddie jones and that's why he'll be on the floor a lot because eddie jones is.

why do u think he dropped to the tenth spot? because of the rumored knee injury and because many teams went international in the last minute ie the knicks by drafting nene hilario, etc. nene's stock went up in the last min. he was a projected to get around the 10th pick but his stock went up and that knicks took him at #7.
let's look why he dropped to #10
Houston
they already got griffin
2 Chicago Jay Williams, G, Duke
sf isn't what they needed. they got eddie robinson, jalen rose, and company.
3 Golden State Mike Dunleavy, G/F, Duke
they are just dumb..dunleavy is gonna be a bust. should've took butler over dunleavy. no wonder the warriors never win!
4 Memphis Drew Gooden, F, Kansas
battier is manning the 3 already
5 Denver Nikoloz Tskitishvili, F, Italy
posey at the 3 and kiki didn't want to pass up on the next dirk?
6 Cleveland Dajuan Wagner, G, Memphis
they were about to get him but the clippers were supposed to draft him and ship him to the cavs so they passed so the cilppers can get him.
7 New York Maybyner "Nene" Hilario, F/C, Brazil
knicks want size upfront
8 L.A. Clippers (from Atlanta) Chris Wilcox, F, Maryland
clippers got odom, miles, maggettee, etc all at the 3. adding another sf isn't a solution.
9 Phoenix
also needed size. went w/ amare.

lol. u think ming is gonna be the roy? he's gonna be pushed around in the paint. jay williams has a good chance to winning it also.

Ming will not be ROY but he will become a nice center.
Jay is going to be good but not a chance for roy on a team so bad
Mike Dunleavy I love how everyone thinks this guy is going to suck. I may be the only one who thinks he has the best shot at Roy. He is on a very yong team and the combo of him and antawn will be fun to watch.
Wagner- I feel He mike and caron have the best shot at ROY he is going to score a ton on the cavs and all that team can so is get better with miles davis and him.
Caron- He is going to make pat look like a God. Caron will take over that team and make eddie jones look like the punk he is.
I dont think this years draft is great but they should be better then the past two.

The Bulls were only 8 games worse than Cleveland last year, and the Cavs lost their best player in a trade for a un-proven forward...
I think the Bulls will be a better team this year than the Cavs, just look at the lineups::
Bulls::
C:: Tyson Chandler
PF:: Eddy Curry
SF:: Fizer/ Eddie Robinson
SG:: Jalen Rose
PG:: Jay Williams
Cavs::
C:: Ilgaskus (Chris Mihm, Ilgaskus gets injured when the wind blows)

naw, i like the guy not cuz he plays for one of my fav. teams (lakers, clippers, heat), but for who he is. haven't u seen him in the throughout the final four? this kid can flat out play!
man, i wouldn't care which team he played for. i'd still collect him cuz i like him. and if u think i like him just cuz he's on one my my fav. teams, ur wrong. cuz wilcox is a bust for my clippers. ely, i haven't seen him play so i can't judge.
as for vittle's statement..
Jay is going to be good but not a chance for roy on a team so bad
what the heck are u talking about? u can be roy no matter what team ur on as long as u put up the numbers. look at gasol, carter, elton brand, etc. they we're all roy and their teams didn't win.
and by saying something like that and u saying the dunleavy and wagner has a shot at roy cuz the warriors and the cavs will be winning?!? that doesn't make sense. u gotta make up ur mind!!!!!!!!!
which side of the fence are u on vittle????

<< <i>He is compared to Paul Pierce. PP gradually improved each year dispite having big time talent. He could do something along those lines. I wouldnt pass him up. He dominated the NCAA tournament...averaged 20.3 points a game, almost 8 rebounds and virtually carried his team in the NCAA tourney. I like him, and I think he'll be a good pro. >>

Also, I think the Bulls are gonna do very good this season. They've got a young(and relatively inexperienced) team with a helluvalot of raw talent. Curry, Chandler, and Jwill. Thats good enough, but then you throw in Rose and Robinson you've got a good team(not great, but good).
I think your just hyping this kid to much. I could understand if he was picked in the top 3-5, then I would understand why your hyping him. But lets face it, they heat aren't and won't be a great team anythime soon. Jones has showed that he is overrated and Zo' is a shell of what he used to be after that Kidney problem he had/has. Butler is a hyped unproven rookie.
"man, i wouldn't care which team he played for. i'd still collect him cuz i like him. and if u think i like him just cuz he's on one my my fav. teams"
Read what I write before you respond. I said "Hate to tell ya, all your writings adds up to alot of hype. "
Like these excerpts....

I got nothin against the kid, he'll be a good player. He's not gonna help the Heat win alot more games, since the Heat suck, no 2 ways around that. But he'll be good, but he won't make a immediate impact like Williams or Ming will.
Just my .02.
But watchout for the real bkb stud Richard Jefferson. He's gonna have a breakout season with the Nets. Lineup...
1- Kidd(he'll just continue to dump it off to Jefferson and Kmart)
2- Kittles(he's a bum not even worth mentioning)
3- Jefferson(I think he'll knock down 15+ ppg)
4- Kmart(gonna continue to score 14-18 ppg)
5- Mutombo(old man, but he can grab mad boards)
Here's how I see it...
Boston took Baker which was a very stupid move
Sixers got Van horn do they expect AI to dish the ball off to him?
Orlando has Grant Hill if he's lucky he'll last through preseason and Hill's not lucky
As you can prolly tell, I'm a Nets fan. But I don't see them beating the Kings or Lakers(while Shaq is playing) anytime soon.

I agree Jay Will has an excellent shot at ROY with the big guys up front to drive and dish too. It does not matter if hes on a winning or loosing. team. In fact for shooters it helps if your on a loosing team so you can just take over a game yourself and not play team ball. Look at the last ROY's they have all been from bad teams Carter,Francis,Gasol etc
Ming has no chance at ROY, This is a learning year. He enters the league with most likely the best 12 footer of any center in the league, but i doubt the coach wants a 7'5 guy hitting the 12 footer. he will get pusshed around a lot but he will have a BIG impact on defense. A good year for him would be 8 boards, 9 points and 3 blocks in 30 minutes a game
Dunlevey will be a good all round pro, not a star but no a wash out-if you want a bust look no farther than Tayshaum prince who was hyped all through his mediocure career at Kentucky which was eratic. Hes lanky so hell get creamed on the boards and has shown hes inconsisten with his outside j-a slashed he is not.
if it wernt for his 3 year guaranteed deal he would be one and done
cba he i come

But, like Shawn says...that's the college level. It might be totally different from the NBA being it's two different levels, which NBA being the highest, of course. I don't know if he'll live up to his hype but he does have quite a lot of strengths...watching him in some of the summer league games...he had some impressive games. He also has the ability to be a great steal man...he'll probably be in the top 10 in steals in the NBA (if he gets enough playing time)...he's built like a d@mn rock and he's very tough. He's also a very good rebounder as he showed in college and some of the summer league games, esp. for his size and position. He is also a kick a$$ three-point shooter...hell, I wouldn't be surprised to see him in the 3 point contest at the all-star game in Atlanta (which i'll be at!
But, on the other hand...him just being 6'7" and having to guard guys like Nowitzki and Garnett and other big threes...could present problems. But who knows...here's a guy who has been in jail for drugs, but has turned his life around...(obviously)...
Only time will tell whether he performs at the status everyone expects of him...
<< <i>Oliver miller is the bomb >>
Yeah, your right. but something about Oliver Miller's fat a$$ half-jogging up and down the court doesn't do it for me.
