Reality check - comparison to an EBL III set

I was just thinking...

EBL III holds first place in the proof Franklin series, with 100% DCAMs and only one possible coin he can upgrade, based on coins currently known.

I've got second place set, also with 100% DCAM (but I got mine first!!), but...check this out...I could use EIGHT of the coins in his set!

Easily looking at six figures plus without breaking a sweat.

Guess number two isn't that bad after all...

    Well hows this. The Jousha Mercury Dime set contains so many single coins that have a greater value than my whole set that it makes me sick. Not really but it does put me into a total awe state.

    He also holds #1 in proof Kennedys, with NO possible coins to upgrade. Matter of fact, unless he sells, nobody can even tie him since he has two pop 1/0 coins.

    What I wouldn't give for a 100% DCAM Franklin set. I wouldn't care what place in the registry I'm in.

    He's also has the #1 Proof Dime Set, missing 2 DCAMs- 1952, 1953.

    It seem that no matter where you look on the registry the one in first place is soooo far ahead of everyone even second place, that it looks like a money pit.
    My Mercury dime set on the other hand has so much room to grow and improve that it still can be fun and the others in the mercury registry are still having FUN.
    Most #1 set are simply the finest known and there owners are very nice . I'm still trying to get them to send me thier coins for safe keeping.

    I remembered that there were no DCAM Roosey's for '52 and '53, then I checked my April pop report. That says 1 each. Now EBL III can get that Roosey set to %100 DCAM.

    Now that I've completed my proof Jeff set I'm getting much more interested in type coins. However there is little chance I'll be anywhere near complete there for many, many years. And when complete the set's score would never be near High Desert or Jim Swan or probably 50 other sets. But I'm still having fun image

    There are about 3 collectors that monopolize on the #1 sets. EBL, HoneyCutt and HighDesert. They've all built magnificent sets.

    Regarding his dime set, the only real upgrade is to a 1964 70 DCAM, of which 2 are known. The lone 1952 68 DCAM would not help his set any, except for adding another DCAM. The lone 1953 66 DCAM would hurt his set, 68 after bonuses compared to 69 after bonuses which he now has (68 CAM).

    I'm currently collecting this set with 5 coins to go, including the 1952. What he has I cannot find, let alone afford. Truly amazing. Then there's his Franklin set image

    Oh, I think he definitely should persue those DCAMs. I would much rather have the %100 DCAM set than one with a slightly better average.

    Perhaps those unique DCAM coins deserve an extra bonus point? image

    I definitely agree with you Carl. An all-DCAM set of Roosevelts would be the ultimate. The pop 1 DCAMs should get like 4 bonus points or something.

    But, the Registry is far from perfect.

    I think we should take everyone with the #1 set in every series and put them in suspended animation for at least10 years. Then hope some of those current pop/1 coins get brothers and sisters for the rest of us poor souls to buy. Bearimage

    On the other hand Bear, maybe some of those guys are in possession of one of
    those special pocketwatches from The Twilight Zone. Maybe they've been putting
    us into suspended animation without our knowing it, whilst they go about
    finding all the good coins... image

    EBL has an incredible set out Proof Franklins for sure! He is a single coin away from perfection - the 1951 Franklin in PCGS-PR67DCAM.

    Here's one of the '64 PR70DCAM Roosevelts. I think the guy is somewhat unrealistic in his value assessment, though.

    Russ - If the price was just 50 dollars less, I would go for it. I just got to save that 50 dollars, because Mrs Bear wants me to get my fur trimmed and she wants me to take her out to koo koo Roos for lunch.

    I think EBL III is very mean keeping all those wonderful coins trapped in his collection. I think he or she, should set them all free , to find new homes with families who will love them. Bearimage

    The listing fee is $3.30. Same as if he asked $1,000,000 or $200.

    I remember coming across this auction (1964 70DCAM) when I was searching on ebay. He also had a 1950 PR-68 CAM dime for $1175 open. There were no bidders for that either. I have no problems with a nice heavy frosted 1964 69 DCAM. I think they go for ~$150. image

    A 1964 PR70 DCAM for $9500? I guess the seller figured "Why not?" With the way the Registry set is going and the way some collectors are paying for the numbers on the holder, a pop 2 coin is bound to bring some big bucks. Obviously not $9500 worth. If he relists this with a low opening bid, I'd like to see how high it would go. How much do those top pop state quarters go for?image
