I not only Bought the Morgan- but I bought the Story!

I came across this ebay auction at the beginning of it and placed my bid. It just closed and I won the lot (A common date Morgan in PCGS MS64). Now, I knew going into it I was paying way over MS64 money for the coin and I knew, going into it the toning didn't look that wonderful per the seller's scan- but something about his urgency and honesty in the auction description, along with his outragious guarantee drew me to bid.
What's your opinion? Is it possible it is a BETTER coin than holdered and this is one of those rare auctions where the seller isn't just puffing up his description?

I LOVE the attitude, certitude and fortitude of that seller!

  • That is a heck of a guarentee. He's got guts! image

He states a 'lack of breast feathers'. Do you think the strike might keep it out of a higher number holder? It certainly appears from the picture to be a pretty mark free coin and rather pretty too other than that.

  • I like it. I bet the guy is sincere and the coin is more attractive than it appears in the scan. I use an HP OfficeJet 3in1 scanner and it has that over-all gray shadowing shown in that scan. It often times makes the coin appear much darker and less attractive than it is in person. I hope you will post scans when you receive it.

It's just the dark toning that PCGS seems to abhor. They will downgrade a point or even two if the toning is dark. This is wrong IMO, unless the toning is unanimously butt ugly. Check out this coin I just sold #1375938534. Not only is it a no brainer MS65, I've seen PCGS66s that weren't as clean. It's somewhat darkly toned but has excellent luster and definately isn't butt ugly IMO.

Thanks guys. I agree with you all. I know it's close to MS65 money- but I'd rather have this one with it's originality than a commercial MS65, dipped bright.
We'll see when the coin arrives though!
Maybe I was taken (one more time!) on the description.

  • I don't think you will have problems.A random check shows he sells coins and everyone was happy.
