I was wondering if this is something the mint did or afterward. I am talking about to the left of the shield,reverse, and where united was on obverse. The coin is rotated a little. Sorry I made the scans very big. any response appreciated thanks Rick here are the resized pics

That damage occurred outside the mint. Possibly was used in jewelery. mike
