Ultra high mint state grades - how’s ANACS?

I’ve seen that ICG certified high end mint state coins (MS67-70) command much lower prices than similarly graded coins in PCGS holders. Even NGC graded coins tend to sell at a discount to PCGS graded coins. What is your opinion regarding ANACS’s accuracy when it comes to the higher mint state grades? My own experience with ANACS is that they compare favorably with PCGS for lower end MS coins. I had an MS61 $2 ½ Indian cross into an MS62 PCGS holder (that payed for my Collector’s Club membership!), and an MS65 FBL Franklin cross at the same grade. Has anyone tried to cross an MS67 or MS68 ANACS coin to PCGS?

Thanks,

Dan

Here's the problem. When you look at high grade ANACS coins you are going to get the impression they are "liberal" with their grading. Why? Because the VAST majority of ANACS high grade coins that were correctly graded have already been sent to PCGS or NGC for the big bucks. This is unfortunate but that is just the way it happens in the coin market. ANACS is probably just as consistant as either of the big two but what shows up on the bourse floor is what you see. IMO, NGC has the same problem but not as severe.

When I used to slab with ANACS several years ago, I found them to be VERY tough on ultra grade stuff-much more so than even PCGS. Whether this is still the case, I don't know-but I suspect it is.
