wild toned morgan

I was thinking of trying for an up-grade on this coin. What do you think? The scratches are on the holder not the coin. The toning is blue and purple. image mike

It's graded MS63 by NGC. It has a nice strike and few marks I think comparable to a MS65 so I assume the NGC graders did not like the toning and down-graded it. I really like the toning. image mike
        • Looks like a nice piece Mike. I picked up an NGC64 morgan last weekend with kinda similar toning - not so much blue, and I was very pleased with it.

For the toning ignorant among us, (namely me), what causes purple toning like that?

I call the last pic "Till she's blue in the face". I think it is a very nice coin. I seem to be drawn to the blue toning. I'm not sure why (maybe it reminds me of bluing), but I like it best.

I like it too. A neat, "different" look....

Russ, purple toning is on the far end of the color scale. It's a tough color without it becoming too dark (and then tough to distinguish between purple and dark gray/black).

          Beautiful coin!
Dog97- Gotta love that bright BLUE Peace dollar too.

          Mike-
I like that kind of purple toning. Your taste for coins always impress me..image
        • Dip it, then send to PCGS. TOO DARK!

        • Too dark for me, then again my name isn't darktone. Besides not liking darktoning it tends to hide problems.
        • I like the coin. Me thinks NGC under-graded it by at least 1 point. Neat dollar!
careful- that light at the end of the tunnel might be a freight train!
