Easy way to SAVE a thread rather than printing it

mrdqmrdq Posts: 1,186 ✭✭✭
In the spirit of instruction and help here is what I do to

1. Keep threads handy that I refer to often and
2. save on paper that PILES up around my desk.

I Use win XP and Netscape 7.0 so your mileage may vary

While reading a thread simply click like this

File
Save Page As ( CTRL + SHIFT)

then browse to your favorite save spot on your computer, name it and click OK

The HTML file will be stored on your computer and when you want to read that thread about AT or Pictures or whatever you can read it off your PC anytime day or night with minimal searching.

the browser location will look something like this in the URL window.

file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/laura/Desktop/printing.htm

Notice it's reading from C:/YOURFAVORITESPOT and not http://www.youronlineurl.com since it's saved on your PC.

Note: You might have to have your browser already open depending on your browser and OS.

  • Great instructions, Tom. I forgot about this way when I was replying to Wayne's message on another thread.

Very helpful. I usually have opted to print or lose track of interesting threads at which point I had to resort to the search routine, that can be frustrating.

    Thanks.
  • For those of you using Internet Explorer, you may notice that saving an html file also creates a folder of the same name that contains all the images, etc. associated with the page. This makes it awkward to email to someone.

So.... if you "Save As" "Web Archive, single file (*.mht)" you'll end up with one file that contains all the images from the page.

If you all do not mind me stepping in, the way I do it is, when I find a thread I am interested in I just add a link to the thread in my title block below. If you look in there, you will see that there is a section in the first post for links.

This way, as people write to them again and again, I can read the new posts as they happen.

And finally, even if they are moved to the Archives, they are still accessable.

The only down fal to this method is, they are not accesable off line.

    Hope this helps someone,
    Ray

PS. Feel free to check out the two links in my title block.
