Is it possible?

Im thinking of buying a capped bust half dollar in xf condition for 85 bucks it is kind of white so im dont know if it has been clean or if it is possable to stay white over 175 years? (btw i looked at it under 5x magnification and i cant see any hairlines exept for a couple but those are not from cleaning.)

It certainly shouldn't be blast white. THese were often cleaned (including many of the slabbed ones). I'd say as long as it doesn't look un-naturally white and shows no sign of harsh cleaning, your OK. Price is about right as long as it is a solid XF.

  • its not really blast white its kind of a grayish white.

  • I would say that their is maybe a 5 or 10% chance at best that it could have remained that color without being cleaned at some point. As long as they didn't use a brillo pad on it I wouldn't avoid buying it if the price was right just becuase it isn't toned. Good Luckimage
